Why Doesn't Steam Have Telephone Support
It would not have to be a toll free number but from the sheer number of posts on this one thread alone it would seem that it is desperatly needed.

I would think the majority would disagree with you. Are you a mod.

You must be new here.

Far from new I just think it would make for good marketing and a good plan for Valve and Steam. This is not meant as a to critize Valve or Steam but it would be a solid improvment on their service.

They would be swamped with ridiculous phone calls every second...it would be overwhelmed by calls, I understand what you are saying and the thought has crossed everyone's mind. But we keep arriving at the same conclusion that it would just not be a feasable option.

The ticket system is already slow because of clogging with unnecessary tickets, ''my game doesn't work''.....''I can't connect to the internet''.

If there was a call centre, it would also get clogged with calls, you would be on hold for hours..and 90% of the calls would be completely unneccessary.....you would be waiting in line for nothing. Sorry bud :/ but I don't think it would work. I have to admit however, that being able to talk to someone one on one is extremely helpful and of a high quality of service, but given the population of customers requiring support, I'm not sure if they have the logistical resources to manage it.....does that make any sense?

[The comment below is exactly the solution I had in mind]

It is nice to talk to people sometimes when things go wrong. Thing is, all that person would do for you is look on the internet as there's no way they could know as much as the net does. You need Skyrim friends with Skype Fran.

Master Dan after seeing some of these comments like people downloading many mods at one time you are probably right at this time.

I hope the time does come however when they can offer that service. They could make it a 900 number if nothing else and charge the customer.

That would insure only serious calls.

I think I need to get Skype myself first LOL. Thank you all for your input.

I think charging would help yeah...In fact, it would significantly help.....

I put this question on yesterday and I have to agree with the ones that said Telephone Support is not possible. Especially with all the new people having problems who have bought the legendary edition.

If Valve or Steam offers phone support they should charge it would be profitable.

Aside from that, Valve would get nonsensical questions from people who don't understand that Valve doesn't actually develop the vast majority of Steam-published games and that it's not terribly useful to ask Valve for technical support since most issues encountered are with the games themselves, not Steam.

Yes but the money they would make from the calls would be a real help to the company. Since Valve and Steam seem to be the future of PC gaming I want them to succeed.

I have seen more questions in the last two days from people trying to download multiple mods and wondering why they clash. I was taught early when I was new that you download 1 at a time.

....AND Not everyone READS THE MANUAL!.....lol

A lot of mods make description sections that often feature REQUIREMENTS. This may be add ons incase of clashes etc...People should be more consciencious...

Since you were one of the ones that taught me to download one mod at a time I bow to your wisdom.

Especially on nexus they really let you know when a mod will clash with another mod. Steam is pretty good also.
