The Return of the Dwemer
This has probably been suggested by someone a long time back but: wouldn't it be cool to have the dwemer come back, righteously ♥♥♥♥ed that we've been messing in their temples and dungeons? They'd have an agenda: war with anyone else! and make it a playable race, too. A player could run into small squads to fight and get a chance to pick up some of the tech they have, too. just a thought...

Have to be player made since Beth has said "We're done with DLC's in Skyrim". Personally I have to say no because not knowing is what gives them mystique. Reveal all their secrets and it's usually a big, "Oh... now what".

This has been suggested before. I like to think they got wiped out by their own technology getting out of control. Just imagine one or a whole host of the centurians taking action against their masters. Or perhaps the Falmer had their revenge??!

There is a quest in Skyrim that *may* explain what happened to them.

It's pretty clear their disappearance has to do with Lorkhan Heart and the Sundering/Keening. Naked Dagoth Ur happens after that. In Morrowind apart from one surviving Dwemer you also have plenty of Dwemer ghosts, meaning only the living Dwemer disappeared.

I like to think they never left.............

Sure they aren't, just in Lorkhan's belly. Lorkhan is not dead, Akatosh is.

I was thinking if there was a quest mod or something like thta where you meet the last remaining Dwemer in the game,,,LIke 10 of them and in the end only like 1-3 of them survive...so there isn;t a whole population but you get to see them...

You already met a surviving Dwemer in Morrowind, and he totally has no clue why his race gone poof. He was in a Daedric Realm while they went poof. And like I said, tons of Dwemer Ghosts.

i would have to say no to this. the dwemer disapeared for a reason. now that the dwemmer are extinct, the only thing that the other races can do is salvage thier technology and apply thier own to it.

Yeah... no.
People seem to fail to understand how mystery works.

My personal theory is that Kagernac attempted to turn them to pure energy to finish the numidian and ascend them to god hood, but his plan failed and after converting their corporal form they instead got sucked into the heart where their essence has since then been being slowly assimilated by the heart.

As for the dwemer return in this theory it would essentially require tracking the heart down into whatever plane beyond oblivion it was sent to when it faded out of Red Mountain. Then the heart itself would have to be shattered so Lorkhan's essence could be given new will (or returning the Tribunal as its new will), thus allowing the apothesised individual(s) to seperate the remaining dwemer essence from Lorkhan's essence and return them to Mundus.

As for what they'd look like I'd say they should be a transformed race due to the exposure to the heart's energy maybe looking like their either living bronze or marble.

arniel gane's experiment pretty much proved that the heart of lorkhan removed them from existence altogether.

Hard to say as its just as likely he obliterated himself by reactivating Keening temporarially without having Wraithguard and Sunder to protect him from the backlash of its true power. (would explain why it can't be recharged)

Or you know just boom as none of the three were meant to to be used without the other.

Plus the dwemer shades that remained apeared to have been dead before the incident at Red Mountain.

The reason why they disapeared is because they finally discovered a way to aetherious and traveled there. It explains it on a wiki
