Making brand new weapons with the Creation Kit
So I had the brilliant idea for a mod the other day, except I have absolutely no experience with creating mods, 3D modeling, programming, and etc. What I want to do is create a brand new weapon with its own design - not rename an already existing weapon and give it new attributes like all the tutorials teach you... How do I go about doing that?

Get a model editor: blender, nifskope and get a good texture modifier: photoshop, gimp.

Download from tin-ternet:
-GIMP2 (free)!
-Plug-in for GIMP2 (to be able to work with dds files)
(You'll need to download the 64bit versions of these if you're vista or above. If winXP then download the 32bit versions):

~GIMP2:
http://www.gimp.org/downloads/

~GIMP PLUG-IN:
http://code.google.com/p/gimp-dds/
Remember:
Gimp plug-in win xp = gimp-dds-win32-2.2.1.zip
Gimp plug-in for win vista/7 = gimp-dds-win64-2.2.1.zip

-Nifskope(free)!
http://sourceforge.net/projects/niftools/files/latest/download?source=files

Blender(free)!
(the internet is playing up I cant get the link sorry but the software is all free though!)

I recommend you visit the TES Alliance site for modding help amd tutorials to get some diy learning at least..

I've used GIMP 2 a little bit, but only with creating banners. As for Blender, I can't figure out how to use it if my life depended on it (the most I've been able to do is create a shape and move it around) and the tutorials I've been able to find are out of date. Is Nifskope more user friendly?

Like I say, TES Alliance has answers to your queries also....

I myself am yet to master Blender...but if I can help as I go along, I can drop links whatever in here..

Nifskope allows you to easily change textures on existing models if you find making original ones too difficult, but definately look for tutorials and follow them to learn blender.

Nifskope is not created for creating new meshes.
