Cpu Affinity Help(SOLVED)
when i play skyrim i expericance microstutter because of latency issues(fps over time). after doing some searching i found out that it can virtually go away if i set my cpu affinty in task manager to just 2 threads(i havea intel 4-core, 8-thread cpu) this makes game play smooth. however i dont want to have to set this every time i play maually so my questions are:

1) can i set cpu affinty though steam lauch options?
2) if so, how?
3) can i apply this to other games both on steam and not on steam( TF2, WOW , minecraft etc)

any help is appreciated

EDIT: i found a solution that sotn involve cpu affinty. by limiting your fps to 30 though this fix it eliminates the microstutter

I can't answer 1 and 2, and I can only tell you that cpu affinity can be applied to any applications that doesn't mandate the use of multi-threading. You might want to post this thread on the hardware section, it is where computer experts will tend to look for questions regarding hardware like this.

There is a thread on this forum, somewhere, which talks about "core parking" and the performance gains associated with sorting that setting out. I can't remember exactly what the title of it is or where it is hosted right now. Quad core with 8 threads?? I am assuming that you have an i7? There has been performance issues due to core parking with this chip apparently. I don't run an i7 so my information is a little vague (for which I appologise).

I did, however, Google it and found this post which talks about core parking on a C.P.U. like yours and goes to great length to explain micro stutter associated with core parking. I am unsure of your technological aptitude and advise caution, but this guide seems to be what you are looking for.

I will however tell you that I am unsure as to the efficacy or accuracy of this post on the techpowerup forum as I don't have an i7 chip. I just have a 2nd Gen i5.

Thaks for the reply i really dont whant to mess around with regedit as i could end up with endless BSOD. i just whan to know if i can get skyrim to run on two cores on my pc by setting an lauch option that does this.
and i am on a core i7

i think there's a program called " process lasso" that lets you configure affinity and a bunch of other factors like priority , i think there's free and paid versions

i dont use it so i cant say if its good or bad , but something for you to look at
