Skyrim randomly minimizes to desktop w/o crashing

As I said in the subject line, Skyrim has been randomly minimizing to the desktop a lot. It doesn't crash, however, but when I alt-tab back into Skyrim, the mouse from the desktop doesn't go away, and that's annoying enough for me to want to restart Skyrim. It doesn't occur with any other program, nor are there any popups from any programs occurring when the event happens, thus causing me to believe it's an issue with Skyrim itself.

I have Dawnguard, Hearthfire, and Dragonborn, and my current character is a mod race (Lithmoliit, if I'm spelling it correctly).

same here, had some mods, after latest patch minimizes every 10 mins or so. no crash though. Deactivated mods, searched google, no help

This has happened to me, but was the result of another application, such as virus program doing an update, or printer driver checking the network. Try disabling other apps you have running one at a time to find what is causing it.

Worked before, happened only after new 1.9xxx patch and steam update.

Just for info, what OS are you running. I've had probs with Win 7 Ultimate that are similar.

I have this issue too. Alt-tab doesn't seem to get me straight back into the game either and when I do get back in I have the dreaded extra cursor. I always save and restart.

I had this even when playing a clean and unmodded game. It seems to be worse when I leave a browser open and my antivirus sometimes seems to trigger it too when it pops up notifications.

Luckily it doesn't happen too often.

Avast and Norton are bad for it. Although you can disable pop-ups in either they can still interupt. There is another piece of software called Advanced System Care that will mess with Skyrim very badly (In fact it messes with Windows very badly if certain Windows components aren't turned off)

What you are all having is called "mouse dropping" (I think it's supposed to be a pun). It's a problem that goes all the way back to Oblivion and is most often caused by something "stealing focus" from the game.

Anywho, it's super easy to fix:
- go to your Skyrim install folder
- locate TESV.exe and right-click it
- select properties
- in the little window that appears, click the tab named compatibiliy
- in the settings section you should see the option disable visual themes
- activate that option and click apply / ok
- touch your nurse's booty
- get slapped
- go back to playing Skyrim

For users of avast! anti-virus:
- perform steps 1-6 above
- open the avast! menu and click settings
- click Silent / Gaming Mode
- there are two options, I reccomend the second choice for full-screen applications, but it is entirely up to what you prefer and it appears that you can even select both
- click ok and close the menu
- ask your nurse to please give you that thing you dropped
- when she bends over, accidently press your face into her butt
- get slapped
- go back to playing Skyrim

doesn't help, tried all suggestions, from google too. reinstalled skyrim and steam, set all compatibility options, no way. Worked before, after steam update and skrim latest patch is ♥♥♥♥♥♥. Other apps work fine in fullscreen. win7 ult 64bit

fixed it. Seems the latest windows 7 updates changed behaviour of some registry entries. After deleting all entries from HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run it works again like wanted \o/

to fix all your skyrim crashes other than the ones that happened cos of mod problems you might have look on your PC taskbar and click start then click Documents then click My Games then click skyrim then you should see a what looks like a skyrim text kinda like a read me file you get in a mod when you downloaded in the past will you open the skyrim text and copy and then past this make shore that it replaces what was there before and you are all set.

I just noticed that McAfee opens a program for a second then closes it which seems to correspond with Skyrim closing... can anyone else confirm this? I don't know how to fix this.

I get this too with McAfee. Make sure auto-scans take place at a time when you're not playing? Or disable it (possibly not a great idea).
