Still no 64 bit version of Skyrim?
I was recently playing the beta patch and noticed that we are still bottlenecked by the 4GB Ram limit that causes the game to crash for those of us who mod heavily. There's no real excuse why we are limited to 4 GB of RAM these days. 64 Bit and 5+ GB RAM along with multi-threading for CPU's (because it's 2013 and we've had dual cores for years now and quad core is becoming standard) would fix a whole ton of issues with Skyrim. It's nice to see you are still patching, but Gamebyro is crippled future wise if you don't end up adding multi threaded and 64 bit versions. It's 2013, not 2007.

Ok interesting thing happened. I use a 4 gig system that I recently upgraded to 8 gigs. Skyrim use to have poor frame rates (in combat scenes) and would stutter a lot. Since upgrading to 8 gigs the game now plays flawlessly. Are you sure this game does not take advantage of increased memory?

I do agree with the limitations with Skyrim.
However, although the Creation Engine is heavily inspired by the Gamebryo Engine, the two engines are infact different. I say this as I speculate if Fallout 4 [next gen title] will use the creation engine. If so, then we should see the creation engine using proper 64-bit technology by then; maybe bethesda will patch this into skyrim at a future date? [doubtful but we can all hope].

Held back by consoles. Next gen will be apparently be 64bit though, so PC gamers should benefit greatly. It's also possible that may include Fallout 4 (yay) since rumor has it it's being developed for next gen consoles.

Skyrim takes advantage of up to 4GB of ram. Most games use only 2GB of ram. You don't need a 64bit game to use more ram. Just a 64bit OS.

Many people still use 32bit OS too. Maybe in 4 more years or so, we will see more 64bit games, but support for XP is only just starting to drop off. An increase will accure after 2014 when MS drops XP support.

Exactly. They're taking into account that not everyone has a super tricked-out machine, nor can they afford to upgrade. That's usually why people go to consoles; consoles don't have system requirements, they're designed to play everything released during their life cycle.

This is because the OS, as well as any other stuff you have running under the hood, is using up the same ammount of ram as before, but having more ram in your system means there is more ram available for allocation to Skyrim alone.

Two main things to go by, 64bit is only just becoming the norm for store bought pc's (uk any way) and as others have said we are held back by the toy box market. Made for xbox as most games advertise sadly means made for the poorest system so it will work on all, which means we lose out as some over powered systems can infact slow games down rather than make them better. When this year ends and the new toy box's are out we will get games that use our systems better as developers will have better toy box's to work with.

Pointless asking for something that wont happen in this game, you want 64bit you will have to wait for the next gen console ports that are 64bit native machines with decent amounts of ram for a change. look to the next 4-5 years for a new PC golden age where consoles are basically a scaled down PC.... everything in the PS4 is pretty much a PC right down to its x86-64bit CPU code..... finally SONY basically admit defeat and that PC is the best platform... since they busting thier asses to make a cheap but decent midrange PC fit in a shoebox for the kids.

You pretty much hit the nail on the head here. 69.13% of the computers queried by Steam are running a 64-bit native version of Windows. 42.31% of the systems queried have more than 4GB of RAM. The *only* reason we don't see 64-bit versions of our games is because PC games nowadays are ports of console games, and the consoles don't have 64-bit capabilities. It's disgusting and ridiculous that we program for the least common denominator, instead of programming for the top of the heap and then porting DOWN.

I haven't seen Skyrim use more than 1.7 gb of RAM...
And I have around 100 mods installed.

What people do not understand is that "made for xbox" just like you mentioned means made for the weakest system. What makes me laugh about this is xbox fanboys think it means their system rocks ROFL

Idk, maybe you have lighter set of mods? For me Skyrim hits like 3.9gb and then freezes up or ctds... and htis is after cleaning up mods, load orders, etc.

Not 4gb, but 2.8-3.2gb ram usage.

My skyrim allways crash when it reaches between that usage.
