Housecarl/Steward Defense - Hearthfire
Hello everyone, I had a quick question about how to setup my housecarls and stewards to defend my land the best. I gave a full nordic armor set to my housecarl in farlkreath and she wore it, but when she entered the hall she was just using her own armor. I know this is a common issue so I was just hoping someone could clarify the best way to outfit them. I want my halls defended as best as possible. I can see they are equiping my weapons though, but not my armor?

Thanks,

Apparently not a big deal to outfit your staff...?

Are you using any mods? I use Ultimate Followers Overhaul myself which lets me easily handle these situations. Now If only I could get my wife to stay at lakeview... despite using My home is your home ten times there. >.>

Amazing Follower Tweaks lets you assign a default outfit to them too, you could find either of them under the workshop, both are pretty stable also :)

I haven't been using any mods. I plan on modding after an extensive playthrough like i did on Fallout NV.

I have yet to give them some nice enchanted stuff though so maybe they will put that on instead. Hopefully a steward + housecarl can defend from the bandits.. dunno about giants though. They will use my weapons though so I can def give them something that plays to their strengths.

Your Housecarl and Steward will equip and use upgraded weapons, but only wear their new armor you gave them when you tell them to follow you. Besides, new armor needs to be properly tailored and adjusted to prevent chafing and rashes, and no self-respecting steward or housecarl will stoop to wearing handmedowns voluntarily.
