patch 1.8 breaks Waking Nightmare. BADLY.
just a heads up. this is the quest to get the skull of corruption, and no, it is NOT mod related.

the brokenness is immediately evident when the passage thats supposed to open when whats his face shoots fire at it.... doesnt open.

also, and this is VERY IMPORTANT. DO NOT GO INTO THE DREAMSTRIDE. when you encounter a magic barrier, use console command tcl to turn off collision so you can bypass the barrier and simply turn it off from the other side. as of 1.8, entering the dreamstride WILL CORRUPT YOUR SAVE, causing the game to freezing anytime it saves or loads after that point.

again, just a heads up. Skyrim is cool in that it provides 3 separate autosaves, but its very easy to accidentally fill those up and find yourself needing to load a save from hours ago to escape this game breaking glitch.

For *most* people, turning off autosave and not quicksaving until they exit Nightcaller Temple will let them get through it.

It does need to be patched.

Yeah, while everyone gets a CTD if they try to save inside the temple after they have entered the dreamstride, only a very small percentage has that issue follow them to the rest of the game.

safest thing to do is completely bypass the dreamstride though. thats what UESP suggests, and its what i did. although i understand there are some people who would rather risk corrupting their save than "cheat" by using the console. just like theyed rather wait 24 hours 300 times to farm the mines for materials to blacksmith grind when they could just additem.

This issue bugged me also. After the dream state, I had to complete the whole quest within the temple before saving. When leaving the temple going back into "skyrim", it autosaved no problems without a CTD.

Yeah this happened to my partner. Apparently saving or loading from an "event" location bugs out something whacky, all she had to do was complete Dreamstride in one go like Digstar did. Really bad bug especially for the unaware saving just before the final part of the quest.

Turning off autosave definitely does the trick.
