Men, i give up!
The ctd are getting annoying now. 214 hours played, only Heartfire as dlc, and some mods, almost hd retexture. The more you play the more it crash, now i can't go for over 5 minutes without getting back to desktop. Think i'll move back to my dear old Vvardenfell. Curious as you can recreate whole Skyrim (world, quests, mechanichs and such things) in Morrowind's engine, but can't the opposite, have you ever think about it? :) It's silly XD

Do you have lot of missions selected. Select only 1-3 missions. If I select all possible missions my system start to crash also. 1-3 missions, and system is almost rock solid.
Also, if you run out of video memory, the game tends to crash.

I have done all the main quest, and all the side quest, only the Imperial side left, now i'm an lv. 57 Wood Elf, and i've disabled all the markers, so everything is unselected. I've disabled also all the auto save system, for travel, sleep and timed, i only f5 to quick save almost every 10 or 20 fott steps. The game i running extremely smooth at all max ecxept shadow at high, and the distance levers at half, it worked until yesterday, now it's a crash fest weeee! No .ini trick like loadingcell at 7 or so. Think i might reconsider to buy the two dlc if that is what i might have with this character. Starting a new game from scratch? Mmmm not much in the right mood now. I've enjoyed Skyrim, no way like i have loved Morrowind, but made so far to get the game so ruined, update after update, it's so annoying!

Try changing your settings, or you could try to clean up the cache in your video card. I'm not sure which card you have but you can check for updates and such. Also make sure that you're not running too many background programs. Learned that the hard way back in December when I first bought Skyrim. You may also try re-checking the integrity of your game as well. That worked for me when I had a similar problem with constant crashing.
8 updates shows just how broken the game was at launch, since skyrim iv never bought another bethesda game and wont untill they sort their ideas out. sadly people are happy to have half finished games so they will just keep relising rubbish.

My rig, sorry for not posted earlier:
AMD Phenom II X2 550
Asus M3A78-CM (latest bios 2801)
nVidia GTX275 (latest driver from GeForce.com 310.90, before i had the shadows glitch)
DDR2 [PC2-6400] 2 GB x2 (4 gb total, dual channeled, with x86 Xp no real need to add more)
Windows Xp Pro Service Pack 3
2 x 1 TB SAta-300 hd Seagate (no raid, just boot and archive)
Audigy Player (latest driver 2.18.17)

Till the 1.8 update i get almost none ctd, and runned smothly with the Hd Nexus pack, if there was a memory problem all the models went white. Then i get the shadows glitch and all the crashes begin. There could be a memory leakage and some mods problem (boss said that's all ok, so dunno) but at this time it whent so unbearable, as they have pushed too up the game specs, for the incoming dlcs. I had most of the actual mods almost 'till the day i've started to play Skyrim (like two years ago) and now with the new year it's became unplayable at all. I have alredy deleted and reinstalled for 3 time now, do i have to do it again?

I had the same problem as you.I spent 280 hours and it kept crashing alot to the desktop. And my level 46 save files got corupted. Then level 30 saves got corupted. All my hard work was gone.I have Hearth, and Dragonborn, and about 8 mods in.I have a great computer, with top of the line video card.So I was so mad.I tried unistaling and reinstaling. That did not work.I tried making more room by uninstalling other games, and that did not work. Then finally I really looked into which of my mods were ok and which were not.So I went through them one by one.Took out the unsure ones. And also I went to default mod.And my computer checked which setup was good for my computer, and I did not tweak it up at all.Now it works great. And at lower settings it even looks better.Hard to belive, but it does.I just cant see in the distance as far.I hope this helps.I almost gave up.Glad I didnt.Sorry for my spelling.

What kind of power supply do you have. GTX275, two hard drives and AMD processor draws lot of power. GTX275 and AMD run wery hot. Could be to small power supply or you system is overheating

550W is enough for GTX275, but you have to harddrives. You power supply is working in it's upper limits when you are playing new games. Fallout 3 crashed often until I changed GTX460 to GTX560. 500W power supply should be enought to 460, but it wasn't. 560 uses less power and Fallout 3 became rock solid.

Could be too. But maybe i've found what cause the crash. I have disabled (at first, now i have deleted them) the two Static Mesh Improvements mods, and i have played 'till now without any problem. Well, until the next game update or the next time he weaks up on the wrong side of the bed.

Right, because Skyrim is the only game ever made that needed to be patched after release...

I am right with you there brother. There is a new driver for the card a beta version 313.96. This cleans up some issues. Your next comment regarding the MODs - the game changes drastically with each DLC. I had a game that was running fine before Dragonborn. I even had game freezzes. My head was so out of whack I asked how to change the difficulty in game. What I ended up doing was [b}deactivating[/b] all my plugins and playing the game at the highest graphical quality possible. Now I make sure that I do not have any conflicts, and the game runs smoothly. Sometime the game may lag, I look back - there was a Java update, or a Nexus upgrade, or a STEAM update. Countless possibilities. Also what is your PSU and how old is it? That may be the difficulty.

Am I only one who doesn't use mods at all? I tried unoffial patches, but there were buggy (couldn't exit castle of Riften), and used too much processor power. I have old Core2Duo 3 GHz.
