Dragonborn DLC breaks quests

I started a fresh, new character today to celebrate the release of Dragonborn, but it looks like I'll be playing an old, over-powered character instead. After I installed Dragonborn and go to the first dragon (Mirmulnir) in the main quest, I don't absorb his soul after killing him! We all fight him, he dies, Irileth says to investigate, I walk up, I hear the guards freaking out, but nothing happens. I'm stuck here with a cursor on the dragons head and no advancement in the quest.

Any ideas?

Open the console, select the dragon and type kill. This should work.

The inability to absorb souls is a known, apparently common bug with Dragonborn.
There's a fix here: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/31083/
If Workshop is back up, you'll find it there, too.

There has always been this bug, just keep loading/reloading previous save and it will fix itself XD

I absorb the first Dragon just fine, even after downloading dragonborn.

This only fixes your bug if your using the Unofficial Skyrim Patch, which broke dragon soul absorbing in Dragonborn.

I tried all of this. After I downloaded the Unofficial Dragonborn patch I reloaded my save, used ressurect on him, then kill, and still no dragonsoul absorbed.

Do I need to try and disable the Dragonborn DLC entirely, then kill him, then reactivate it?

The patches won't always work retroactively. You don't have a save before you killed him?
(Really a good idea to save often with seperate saves for these types of games.)

I figured it out. The Unofficial Skyrim patch is what is breaking the dragon soul absorption ability if you have Dragonborn. Guess we have to wait until the authors of that patch release an update.

Easy fix is to use the Console command, SetStage MQ104 90
That will advance the stage, give you the shout and first soul without breaking anything.

I tried the console command and it didnt work. Anyone else have any ideas. I have Dragonborn and the unofficial patch.

Download the unofficial dragonborn patch.

If you use Dragonborn DLC and the "Unofficial Skyrim Patch";
then you also need to get the "Unofficial Dragonborn Patch", as I understand it, the "Unofficial SKyrim patch" has a conflict that is fixed by the "Unofficial Dragonborn patch".

If you have Dragonborn and NO Unofficial patches, then it should work as designed.
