'Failed to start game (App already running)' when Skyrim crashes?
After playing for about a minute, it'll crash back to windows screen, with no error messages or anything. But then when i go back into Steam to try it again, this error message pops up: Failed to start game (App already running).

I've tried Alt-Control-Delete to go into task manager but the only thing that remains open is Steam. So i try to shut Steam down but it asks me to stop running Elder Scrolls: Skyrim before shutting down.

I am pretty sure the game is not running, and i have no idea why it is crashing or giving these error messages?
Please help me! :(

Try to go to Task-Manager and search for a skyrim process ( dont know the real name , but should be anything with "skyrim" ) and end it .
Good luck ^^

I get a similar issue on Counter Strike Global Operations, here's STEAM's advice to me:
Hello,

A staff member has replied to your question:

Hello,

Thank you for contacting Steam Support.

You may be able to eliminate the 'failed to start' error by simply running Steam as an administrator.

To do so, exit Steam.

Navigate to the Steam installation folder (C:\Program Files\Steam\ by default)

Right-click on Steam.exe

Select "Run as administrator"

Re-test the issue.

Please follow the steps outlined in the following guide if running as admin does not resolve the issue:
https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2037-QEUH-3335

If this fails, you may need to reinstall the game files.

1) Launch Steam and log in to your account.

2) Go to the Library > Games list.

3) Right-click on the game which is generating the error.

4) Select "Delete Local Content..." from the menu and 'delete'.

5) Double click on the game to begin a new installation.

If you encounter any difficulty, please notify us - we will gladly assist you.

Your game syncs with steam after you have played, even after a crash. Either wait for the sync to finish or do what i have done and turn it off.

Changing the permissions to run as administrator for the Steam Application worked for me.

Hey the thing that worked for me was to go to msconfig and enable all startup processes (weird because the only thing disabled was adobe acrobat reader :-S) and then run as administrator :-)
