Issues with some trees
not all the trees are doin it, i'm fairly sure its just 1 texture for the trees in the mountains doin it, its givin me that old purple white error texture on specific trees. outside the introduction cave at helgen right when i get outside theres like, 4 trees with this error. did a complete reinstall, verified, verified again to make sure it didn't mess that up, tried using texture packs to override it, turned off all mods and went completly vanilla, nothing seems to do it.

anyone else have this issue and find a solution? this only came up recently and i never had this issue before except with the fire logs texture (that one i knew why though.)

this is a screenshot just outside helgen identifying one such tree while looking at lots of other varieties to show, its probably only 1 or 2 files being messed up. all plugins off, all addon content removed. pure vanilla reinstall.

Stumps of trees, some actual trees and other random misc items turn purple due to a coding error in the HD Texture pack that has yet to be rectified. I've had the same issues. I'm not intelligent enough to find a solution. My expertise lies in other areas. But the HD Texture pack is what's causing it.

If that is so, disabling it or adding these should help. I have however seen this kind of thing happen without the High Resolution Texture Pack present...

after much fiddling last night i mad some discoveries, the high res pack from bethesda wasn't a issue at all, as i had them disabled for that screen shot. this is probably the weirdest fix i had ever done.

at first it was a logical step " i'm gonna delete any tree related folder, verify cache with steam ad reaqcuire files."
this resulted in my in game settings being set to their defaults. so minorly annoying when the only file reacquired was a settings file and no textures or meshes.
next step was more of a joke than anything, "i'm just gonna boot up the game and see if the trees are gone altogether."
the trees showing up incorrectly were fixed, no tree was missing.
so by deleting the Tree folder in meshes, textures, and anything else that was tree related, (pinemountain etc) it resolved the issue. but putting in texture pack mods like lush trees and other HD texture packs besides bethesda's HD pack yielded no change to the tree textures.

i'm starting to queston my understanding how this game works... it works... better? with no meshes or texture files?

Loose files trump packaged assets (*.bsa) in the load order; the files you deleted were likely left there by a mod.

thats the thing though this was a 100% clean mod, the first screenshot was right after reinstall on a new file.

Uninstalling doesn't get rid of things you added yourself.

ah really? thats kinda lame.

For future reference:

If you've sufficient time, cross-reference with this. If you haven't, refer to this guide[wiki.step-project.com] instead.

I see this is an old thread, but figured I would relate what fixed this same problem for me, I recently went through a light application of the STEP process and had the same problem with purple trees (I did not have the problem last time I did the STEP process, though I did have halfway common CTDs, which is why I didn't do 100% of the STEP process this time).

What I found to be the culprit was "TreesHD" @ http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/3812
All I did was remove their texture and mesh files that referenced trees and no purple trees at all that I've noticed.

However, I am at a loss as to whether it is this specific mod which is the problem, or it's interaction with Bethesda's HiRes textures.
