Need BOSS Help
Hey guys I've been using BOSS and I went to remanage my mods and BOSS is NOT recognizing ANY files but Skyrim.esm. (I have Hearthfire and Dawnguard and it doesn't recognize them either. Any help I already reinstalled BOSS to 2.1.1. (I had 2.1.1 anyway but it was worth the try.)

Hey I'm having the SAME problem!!! I can't figure out what it is! Maybe BOSS is just having problems right now...

It's likely due to some sort of maintenance with the website or maybe they have taken the masterlist file down to update it.

Same here. the server's responding with a "Temporarily unavailable" message for this file's request. Looks kile Oblivion & Fallout:New Vegas serve out fine, so this seems to be something specific with the skyrim master list

Go to this url:
http://better-oblivion-sorting-software.googlecode.com/svn-history/r6356/data/boss-skyrim/masterlist.txt

1) Download that file, save it over top of your existing master list.
2) Run BOSS without updating the master list (easy via the wysiwyg or change the BOSS.ini to have bUpdateMasterlist= false
3) Enjoy the game
4) Periodically switch it back to see if fixed.

Stop using BOSS! It isn't necessary. I have some 260 Nexus mods which result in 195 esm and esp files. When I tried to use BOSS, it always made a mess of mod order that resulted in CTDs and other spurious behavior. I maintain mod order using NMM by ordering the mods by sections: graphics, sounds, objects, places, NPCs and scripts. Within each section I order the mods in alphabetically, ignoring leading articles. I have no use for BOSS!

This is bad advice for most people. BOSS may not be perfect and users should still learn how to adjust load order on their own (and why that's necessary) - but BOSS is a helpful tool. Especially for beginners.

Load order is important.

Bad advice is "run the red light". If I can run 260+ mods and not have any problems, then my "advice" would seem to have considerable merit!

Been at this for a long time now and people with far more knowledge and experience than either of us would disagree... You've been lucky if you've never had issues that were caused by load order. That's great. Not the case for most.

I don't have much respect for the opinion of someone who hides behind some phony name!

Ok. Feel the same about folks who launch personal attacks for no reason.
Have a nice life.

ps. Does that go for all the modders whose mods you use who use screen names?

Also... apologies to the OP. Not my intention to derail your thread.

Eh I dont care was fun reading you comment. Any fix for this? i haven't tried recently but I als odon't seem to have a problem with Skyrim. 100+ mods no problems mostly because the mods are still in order I just need to make sure Skyim realism is in the right spot.

Just ran BOSS, it seems to be updating and sorting fine today. Maybe try again and make sure your firewall settings haven't changed and it's not being blocked.

If it's still not working for you, you could try chasyorks solution a few posts up and manually update the masterlist.

Boss is working for me as well. Word is that the google code repository was having some growing pain issues. Hopefully that's all there is.

to Kenneth.Underwood: You can always manually sort your own mods- some load orders are important, some aren't. There may even be merit to what you say, but I've seen plenty of forum posts where "what is your load order" queries eventually lead to the exact same discoveries that BOSS would have provided in one click- from sort order to incompatible mods to mods with dirty edits and known issues. That one click answer is much faster than waiting for a forumite to see my post, making it a potential time-saver for me.

Still, might have been inclined to take your advice under consideration, but,
1) I'm unlikely to take the advice of someone as emotionally detached as to start personal attacks over a difference as basic as this. It demonstrates (at least) a limited patience and a tendency to jump to conclusions that usually makes for a poor resource for technical advice.
2) Your statements show less literacy in the program than even a basic user such as myself has come to have. If BOSS doesn't recognize a mod, it lists them in the report and leaves those mods at the end of the list for the user to sort on his own. If you don't sort these, then yes, you can encounter issues if those mods themselves are the problem. You don't have to sort them every time, though- you can add your own local data file explaining to boss how to handle those few unrecognized mods next time you run them. Perhaps the aforementioned lack of patience and tendency to jump to conclusions didn't serve you well here...

Yup its all working as planned now. Maybe they were testing it for Dragonborn?
