Dragon Attacks Within Cities?
This happened to me a while ago, but I never thought to post it on here.

I was in Solitude, doing some Thieves' Guild stuff, being the badass Dovahkiin I am, and as I'm up on a ledge, I see a winged shape far off in the sky. A dragon. "Odd, I've never seen them this close to a city," I'm thinking. It flies closer and closer and ohTalositsattackingme! Eventually I kill it, and only after I kill it I start to remember I'm within the threshold of a large city where you have to go through a gate to enter. This has never happened to me before in Skyrim, and I assumed it could never happen. But since then, it's happened twice. Once in Windhelm, and once in Whiterun.

Has this ever happened to any of you? Is it just a glitch, or is it supposed to happen?

Dawnstar too (for me). Last time I looked, there was around 6 dragon skeletons just lying around.

Walled cities are sometimes less likely, but not impossible. I've seen Elder Dragons land in the Winterhold college courtyard several times. Seems a dumb move for a dragon. I've seen a Dragon attack Whiterun only once. Windhelm a few times. Solitude, I can't remember that. Markarth - twice. Riften? 3 or 4 times. Dawnstar? I've lost count. Riverwood likewise

I've been INSIDE both Solitude and Windhelm, and had dragons attack several times, and the number of times I've been just outside Riften and been attacked by dragons is uncountable. I've only been attacked a handful of times outside Whiterun, and never in or near Markarth (the Reach, and for that matter Eastmarch, Orc Camps are another matter). Of course, minor towns like Dawnstar, Morthal, Falkreath, Riverwood, etc are also fair game. The only minor town I've never had a dragon attack at was Ivarstead (maybe because it's in Paarthurnax's territory?)
Once I had a blood Dragon plus Dawnguard attack in dragon bridge the Lone Guard died in the hand of Dawnguard and the Dragon was attacking me thank god it was a frost breather and Serena being downed was useless and being under the sun kinda kill my regen...

Oh, and the College of Winterhold - like clockwork. Very stupid on the dragon's part, the wizards (with some help from the Dragonborn, of course) quickly kill the Dragon before it really has much of a chance to do anything!

Or maybe the greybeard had something to do with it...

ever had one in Markarth? That one is kind of hard to manuver without hitting innocent bystanders.

I've seen them in Winterhold, Markarth, Riften, Morthal, Falkreath. Fighting a blood dragon in Markarth was not fun.

Yeah, it's absolutely fun having dragons attack you within walled cities and kill off the NPCs that don't and can't respawn so as the already nearly empty cities look even more desolate and abandoned... And there are so many. Nearly as annoying as the Cliff Racers in Morrowind except for the fact those had the decency to leave walled cities alone and didn't kill off outdoor traders and people you can exchange dialogue with or marry.

I only just had my first one yesterday in Solitude.
By the time I actually got a shot off at him, he was almost dead. Also, that Jaree-ra person kept attacking me through the whole thing lol.

I thought some patch was causing the dragons to appear.
Is there a mod to make it happen more often in cities?

Not a glitch they will attack citied especially Dawnstar, Falfreath, Riverwood, Solitude. I've only had two dragon encounters at Markarth.

This is why I don't directly fast travel to cities anymore...
