Skyrim- Struggles to fight against a poorly supplied legion. Also note needed alduin to survive an imperial trap.
I'll go with the elves simply cause its obvious.
Basically if you look deeply into the mythos, the dominion offered a peace deal to the empire, the banning of talos which seemed trivial to the empire because they had no intention on enforcing the law and the civil war that followed because of the "shills" they installed is all apart of their plan, their intention isn't Skyrim, It's the Empire, after they are dealt with, there would be nothing left stopping them from taking anything and everything they wanted.
Historically, dragonborn are empire-makers. They do -not- bow to someone else's flag, particularly when that someone has repeatedly distinguished themselves by being massive jerks to everyone they meet.
I'm not saying I'd -like- to see a stormcloak empire. I'm just telling it like it is. Ultimately, which side has the dragonborn carries -a lot- of weight, and there is -no chance- of the dragonborn siding with the altmer.
Firstly, while they did fight the Empire to a standstill, the Thalmor themselves must have been severely weakened themselves - after their defeat (and yes, they technically did lose that war) they were even driven out of Hammerfell, and never tried to re-invade. Basically, the only part of the Dominion that counts as far as supplying soldiers (since Valenwood is likely still restless after the Thalmor Pograms of Bosmer, and Khajiit, while excellent warriors, make poor soldiers) is the Summerset Isles, which is a fairly small landmass when compared to Cyrendiil or even Skyrim. Likely they never had that many soldiers to start with (which is why they only tried to invade Hammerfell and even then only after the Empire had had most of it's forces wiped out in a failed invasion of Akavir), and since Elves have a low fertility rate, combined with the fact that they booster their numbers of soldiers with a large number of female soldiers (potential mothers) means that when the Empire and Hammerfell both wiped out huge numbers of Dominion troops, that it will take perhaps two, three or even four generations to replace them. I seriously doubt the Dominion would be in the shape to invade anyone for many years, unless they have a Numidium Mark 2 hidden away and ready to go!
The Empire had an advantage fighting the Stormcloaks in Skyrim since they already had a presence there, plus at first the Stormcloaks didn't have large numbers of troops (in the beginning, rebellions always start out very small, and at a disadvantage - look at Syria, for instance). However, if you go to Solitude and evesdrop on the conversation between General Tullis and Legate Rikki, when she says Ulfric wants to invade Whiterun, he basically laughs at her, and she says he should take the threat more seriously since her intelligence indicates that Ulfric keeps gathering more troops daily. Basically, if the Dragonborn joins the Stormcloaks, although the Dragonborn does a lot of the work in defeating the Empire, the fact is that without the Stormcloak army increasing in size with every victory, the Dragonborn couldn't have done it alone, and even after the Stormcloaks won, I doubt Ulfric would stop recruiting, knowing what might happen next. The Thalmor would not have the advantage of having a foothold in Skyrim like the Empire (especially if the Dragonborn wipes out the garrison at the Northwatch Keep), and they would also be facing a much larger, more experienced, and better equipped united Nord army then the Empire would have faced even at the end of the war in the battle of Solitude.
Basically, if the Thalmor invaded Skyrim, they would be a weakened, smallish nation trying to establish a foothold over a long, sea-based supply line in a larger, united nation (of warriors, at that) - unless the Thalmor had a secret weapon to aid them, they would likely fail even without the Dragonborn aiding the Nords. Of course, if Skyrim tried to invade the Dominion, that would likely fail too because while they might not have the strength to invade, they certainly would have enough remaining troops, fortifications, traps and tricks to stop a Nord invasion over a long, sea-based supply line. So while the Thalmor would not be able to invade Skyrim and win, neither would the Nords be able to invade the Dominion and win, except:
Secondly, the Nords have the DRAGONBORN on their side - Thalmor, GAME OVER!
Nords WIN!!
No. Aldmeri Dominion is stronger than the crippled Imperium Legion stationed in Cyrodiil. Skyrim Legion whooped their asses hard at the Imperial City and liberated Cyrodiil, Hammerfell also whooped their asses hard on their own thanks to coward Empire raising the white flag and achieved independence against both. This is one of the main reason why the Nords hate the White-Gold Concordant so much.
People think the Imperial Legion in Skyrim is weak, is totally wrong. They are the STRONGEST remaining Imperial Legion, because the Empire has lost all hold on other provinces and their main Legions in Cyrodiil are wimps. This, good sirs, is the Legion that won (or at least fought to a standtill) the war for the Empire.
The Aldmeri Dominion will have to go through Hammerfell or Daggerfall first before they can reach Skyrim. Or Cyrodiil. Hammerfell kicked their ass. Daggerfall is relatively unconcerned with the current Empire or the Dominion, they are busy fighting among themselves at the moment (thanks to Dominion meddling) though I doubt the Dominion would dare to attack them as a whole.
When the Stomcloaks won, the attack would begin.
If the Empire won, they would leave, because of the White Gold Concordat.
2) Trying to coordinate an effective sneak attack with widely dispersed and isolated garrisons of troops would be difficult - failure to perfectly coordinate would result in multiple piecemeal attacks that could easily be neutralized one after another.
2) Sneaking enough troops into position to launch an effective attack undiscovered would be impossible - someone would be bound to notice that many Thalmor soldiers, even if they moved one squad at a time.
3) After the smackdown they got from the Empire and Hammerfell, I doubt they have the soldiers to be playing hide-and-seek with the Stormcloaks. (even if they managed to fool the Empire into thinking otherwise - to the point that the Empire effectively commited suicide by signing the White-Gold Concordate).
In conclusion, while I suppose such a tactic would be theoretically possible, trying to execute it successfully would be extremely problematic.
In any event, their arrogance and overconfidence would likely lead them to yet another defeat, just like it did both in Cyradiil and Hammerfell, especially since they'd be going up against the Dragonborn and the Nords, who are the certainly the fierciest and most determined warriors in all Tamriel,

The most that the Nord would fight with any ties to the Dominion, would be the Black Marsh Argonian allies of the Dominion. They invaded Morrowind, and Morrowind is neighbour to Skyrim. The Dragonborn DLC takes place in Morrowind (although only in Solstheim? Didn't check), so probably if anything come close to a clash between the two that would take places in Morrowind with the Argonian.
Also the events in Morrowind did not take place in whole Morrowind, only in Vvardenfell, city of Mournhold and Solstheim.
