I'm having the same problem. It's on a specific quest, to rid a town of a nightmare problem by following a priest to a sanctuary. I don't get to the sanctuary before my game crashes. I manage to load my game, I walk a little bit towards my destination and the game crashes. I don't have mods installed so it's the game itself. Very annoying! I had also played all night, and all of this morning too. Now I get home from work and it doesn't want to work.

I've been sweeping the 'net for you, but it seems that the only bugs reported about the Waking Nightmare quest are all about when you are entering or inside Nightcaller temple. I've gone to almost 10 sites, and none of them have a fix for your specific bug.

EDIT: So, I did finally find a fix. Buuuuuut, it does involve opening the console and console-completing the quest.

First of all, thank you so much for all the effort you have made to find a fix. I appreciate it greatly!! :)
However, I am a little disappointed (not at all by anything you've done) by that be the only way to resolve the issue :( I play it because I want to complete the quests myself, and progress through the game myself. It's a little disheartening to have come as far as I have only to have the console complete something for me :\
Of course I'd appreciate a link or a step-by-step if you'd be willing to share, although I think I'll keep looking also. I shall use it as a last resort kinda thing!
Thanks again for looking for me though :) Means a lot!

No problem :)
Now, I got the fix from > http://forums.bethsoft.com/topic/1420793-waking-nightmare-quest-and-18/
I know it's not the exact same bug as yours, (but the method of fixing and outcome should be the same) but every other person having problems with CTD were inside the temple.
And I get what you mean, kind of takes away from experience :\

Thanks again for all your help! Although, it seems as if I didn't need the fix in the end after all. I loaded the game, and ran a head of the priest instead of following. I stopped every now and then to make sure he was keeping up ofc :P
Other than that though, I didn't do anything differently and was able to complete the quest without further complications. Dunno what was wrong with it, but I hope it doesn't continue to be a problem :\

It seems that you have a corrupted save. If it's an autosave, Skyrim makes a backup file. If you change the file extension of the .ess.bak save file to .ess and change the .ess file to something else or delete it, you can load the save from the backup. Hopefully the backup isn't corrupted, also. It could also be a mod conflict of some sort, but a corrupted save seems most likely. You should always have several save files going for each game. I alternate between 3 save files every time I save.

thx BoPacker...it wasnt an auto save but thats what i was kinda of guessing happened...and where would a non computer user start looking for these back up files? thx again.

If you're running windows, it's in the "my games" folder which is in your "my documents" folder, which is in your personal folder.
