Skyrim: Creation Kit
Been looking everywhere and to begin with I've been having a hard time even finding where to post this, so now I post here because it's about the only place I found.

This question is about Creation Kit, the editor for Skyrim and stuff.

If I duplicate an item, and think "hey, I want to give it another apperance", I can click the World Models button and browse through the data/meshes/models folder for stuff, so I can choose appearance.
Problem is,, I don't have that folders, I only have the folder meshes/actors... other wise the meshes folder is empty... so ther eis no models folder in the meshes folder.. only the actors folder.. meaning I am 100% unable to choose any kind of apperance at all, which is quite frustrating when I''m practicing my modding skills by adding new things with already modelled items. like a new item with the apperance of Glass Armor for instance... I just can't choose the Glass Armor mesh because it's supposed to be in the models folder, but I don't have the models folder at all!

How to I GET those files at all? it feels strange having payed for the game. then getting access to the editor,, but not having acces to the files I need to actually edit the gamefiles.

Any tips? I'd gladly accept any kind of help. :)

Cheers mates!

You don't have a "models" folder because no such folder exists. If you want to use an item in the game as a base for your new item, you need to first extract the item's Mesh and Texture from their respective .bsa archives and create a Meshes folder and Textures folder in your Data directory. These are the files you edit to alter the appearance of your new item. The CK will not extract those archives, you'll need another program for that.
Fallout Archive Utility is one of the tools you can use for this purpose you can get that here: http://fallout3.nexusmods.com/mods/34

Here's a basic tutorial on extracting meshes:

It is extremely more complicated than you think my friend :/
Like Cookie says, you gotta look into seperate stuff than the Creation Kit. See, I'm trying to learn all this too, as a beginner, and believe me, I am sick of the daily headaches. You will benefit from the right one to one guideance, but going about asking people is tricky. Due to the competence level, you need to even know what they're talking about before they can even help you :/

You have to download programs 'tools' to let you extract files...
Such as Fallout Mod Manager..
then you need or are recommended to have nifskope.
Having some art tool like GIMP2 or Corel Paint shop pro [#] is handy...

I have a massive headache now, and I'm just not able to go into it in more detail sorry, I just haven't got the patience at the moment, but if you're lucky, someone will have. It is a long learning curve and you need a little patience to become profficient at modifying meshes and textures...Hey Stabby :D

I have a massive headache now.
Hang in there...
Thanks everyone, I'm currently using stabbykitteh's solution which atleast sofar seems to do the trick. Almost completed with Voices.bsa.. after that I only have Textures.bsa left, then I'm done extracting.
That teswiki link really explained it well, so it wasn't really hard. :)
Thanks! :D

Now when I tried it based by stabbykitteh I could explain it to you so you know how much easier it was than it looked. :)

Download this manually, not with the Nexus Mod Manager:

Here's a basic tutorial on extracting meshes:
http://wiki.tesnexus.com/index.php/Skyrim_BSA_Extraction

The tutorial uses another extracting program, but it works just aswell with this one.

Extract the fallout extract thingy in a folder wherever you want, you'll get the program as a jar, a textfile, and a shortcut.
Open the shortcut!

When it's open, click on File, followed by Open Archive.
in the browsewindow, navigate to your Skyrim/Data folder, and then just open one of the files listed in the tutorial-link. those Skyrim-Something.bsa... you've got things like meshes, textures and other stuff.

Open one of them, then click on the menyitem Action, and Extract All Files...
Target the extraction in the Data-folder... DO NOT PRESS ENTER when navigating to the right folder, it will select wherever you are.. I already extracted stuff directly to C: when selecting the gamesfolder and pressing enter.. so use the mouse to clikc yourself to the skyrim/data folder,, then press enter /click on the select button to extract it.

Repeat this process with the next .bsa file... and then rinse repeat until they are all extracted.

Done! :D

Hope that soothed your headache buddy. :)

And thanks again to stabbykitteh for learning me this! :)
That's very thoughtful of you..I have those links already yeah..and they are really helpful! Once again, thans for your help! LOL
