Barknar: In memoriam.
I've been travelling through Skyrim for quite some time now... Met a whole host of colorful characters, and some, not so colorful... Today however I met a man, not a very significant one mind you... But a man that who's name will stick with me throughout my journey through these harsh lands. A man named Barknar.

Now, I was ascending the steps to High Hrothgar, in the blinding snow, and biting wind... Stopping at an emblem, I reflect upon its message.

"Men were born and spread over the face of Mundus; The Dragons presided over the crawling masses; Men were weak then, and had no Voice"

I turned to make conversation with another traveler, Barknar, and spoke with him. He mentioned that he loved to walk the 7,000 steps, and would often pause, to meditate upon the messages of the stone emblems. He mentioned were I to continue along the treacherous path, I should be careful, as there were wolves dotted along the way.

Taking note of his kind words, we parted ways, and I continued along the path, leaving him to his meditation.

A little ways along, I found myself in peril! A snow bear, surely one of the more vicious creatures of Skyrim, knocked me back with tremendous force. Naturally, I panicked, grabbing for my steel scimitar, and slashing at the beast, backing away down the path..
.
Alas, my stamina had been drained, climbing the steps is one thing but trying to fight a snow bear? I soon found myself tired, and unable to continue fighting... Surely this would mean the end, I thought...

At that moment, a mighty cry echoed through the mountain pass, and a thwipping of arrow pon skin, followed by a roar, a thrashing, and then? Silence...

I rose, eager to thank my savior, for slaying the foul beast, and ensuring my survival, and what I saw, froze my blood a damn sight quicker than the sub zero temperatures that hung in the air...

Barknar lay, motionless, slain, by the same animal he so valiantly put down...

I paused, and a great sadness washed over me... This man, humble in his ways... Walking the steps to attain some kind of peace, now lay dead before me, a stranger, he did not need to help.

No, I thought... He shall not lay in the dirt, mired with blood and muck... And so I dragged him, back up to his favorite spot of meditation, and placed him upon the stone surface, his bow by his side...

"Men were born and spread over the face of Mundus; The Dragons presided over the crawling masses; Men were weak then, and had no Voice"

This man was by no means weak... This was Barknar, the hunter... And he saved my life, may he finally meditate eternally, in peace.

I felt the same for Severio Pelagia who left me 100 gold after he died. I did not even know he was sick. I just got the news in Windhelm as I was about to join the Stormcloaks in their seige of Whiterun. He always said that he was glad I was on his side. Oh how I disappointed him. I hope he did not die of a broken heart! I did not like the fact that the Jarl took 10 gold for adminstration purposes though.
