Forgive a noob question....
What are "dirty edits"?

I have just installed "B.O.S.S" and its reporting "Dirty Edits" in various .ESM's and Mod's and I would like to know their significance please. I will be researching deeper into this but would like a quick answer from the knowledgable TES Syrim community.

You are forgiven.

Dirty edits are annoying small things...
For instance, if when making a mod, the modder loads a vanilla cell and it gets marked as edited, while nothing really has changed, it is a dirty edit.

Dirty edits can cause conflicts, when too many mods edit same entry.

Thank you Cyrax, being new to this and seeing BOSS flag several of the few mods I have added as containing "Dirty Edits" I was quite alarmed! The description sounds worse than it actually is then :-)
I will have to learn how to fix them but for now I will deactivate them I think.
thanks for your reply

if you want to find out more read the creation kit wiki's instructions on dirty edits , and what should and more importantly not cleaned , always ask the mod author if it's ok to clean his/her mod . thoses dirty little bits might just be important

Thank you for the advice pike. Yes I will be doing a lot more research before I change anything. On further study these appear to be in the Dawnguard.esm,Dragonborn.esm and Heartfires.esm amongst others..... I will be doing a lot of Wiki reading :-)

Wow. Thanks so much for this video. As a fairly recent newbie I had stayed away from such items as SKUI SKSE TES5EDIT and NEXUS. A few videos I had checked regarding Skyrim and mods were (no offense intended) too fast spoken and rushed, assuming most people knew what they meant. This video was presented by an author who knew what he was talking about and could present it in a measured and understandable format for newbies.
Once again, thanks for this. I will definately be checking out all Gopher's videos.
