Strange Horse keeps appearing
I asked Lydia to buy me a horse, which she did. This horse had Ride Jogon's Horse (E) when approached. I used the horse to get me to Dawnguard fortress and then I was asked to find some helpers. After finding them my horse disappeared when I had to fight some bandits and I could not find it again.
Later on while undertaking another quest I came across a dappled grey horse while heading north and when approached it came up with Ride Horse (E).
I did so and rode it when going to see Serana's father. But it had vanished when I came back to the boat landing.
Later in the game I was heading down the road from Winterhold and the horse was standing in the middle of the road. Once again when approached it had Ride Horse (E). Once again I mounted it and rode it to Lakeview and put it in the stable.
The next morning it was gone and I haven't seen it since.
Does anyone know who the horse is supposed to belong to and why it can be ridden but does not stay around?

I don't think that was the horse Lydia bought you...

There is also a horse that belonged to some hunters killed by Horkers near Winterhold College, that you can ride. However when you get off it wanders away. Then when you fast travel anywhere the horse appears with you (unless killed by something in the meantime) and immediately starts walking away. No idea how to claim it to make it stay with you and no it's not counted as stolen.

The combination of a weird physics engine and extremely thourogh world development makes it so you can't always tell if stuff is supposed to happen.

It's quirky and amusing at times.

Very wierd.. I wonder if it is a glitch caused by Mods?...I do know that any Horse that you don't own won't hang around, it'll just wander off. In your Opening statement, you no longer mention ride Jogon's Horse...but just ride horse...this is prob why they aren't staying, because they aren't the one you bought, but a glitch is possibly spawning Horses that used to be the one you owned but are randoms....so aren't going to stay because they arent actually the one you own..

I have a glitch with skin textures at the mo..all the bodies are jet black..so by downloading a mod to make my game look better, I've ended up with an inconvenience! :D

Well, the first time I bought and used a horse, it wound up dying on the way up to High Hrothgar. So I said, Oh well, looted the corpse, and moved on.

Sometime later, I'm running back up the mountain again, and there's my horse, just sort of wandering around. Yes, it was my horse. After that, it would just sort of show up in random places.

I started a new game since then, and haven't been using horses (though I have one stabled at Windstadt.)

Install Convenient Horses. Besides saddles, it has two absolutely necessary features: it makes horses run away from combat instead of getting in the way and killed, and you can call your horse with a horn if you've lost it to make it appear besides you, or whistle if you know he's nearby and don't want to break immersion.

Also it gives followers horses too, they don't need to run behind you like peasants anymore (unless it's your thing ^^).

I found a horse like this although not near Winterhold. The thing to note is that fast travelling will bring the last horse you rode with you. So riding the unowned horse meant that it came with you when you fast travelled and not your own horse.

Did you try fast travelling to find "your" horse, before riding the unowned horse? Usually that will bring them out of hiding (although sometimes it will actually kill them, wtf). I don't generally bother with horses - they are more trouble than they are worth, but a mod like Convenient Horses might be the way to go. Jogon's horse is probably still out there wandering around, lost and alone...

I don't own a horse. After initially 'owning' one I found it too annoying. The horse would get killed too quickly in a fight, plus you could not use magic while on it's back. Then you had to stop and get off to fight. I know there are some mods that now fix some of these problems but I can not be bothered as it's much simpler just to run.

Convenient horse seems to be the way to go and I can also get horses for Serana and any other follower I have in tow. I have fast travelled since the horse disappeared but it did not materialise. Perhaps it was from soneone elses game and decided to see what other players were doing while waiting around! LOL

Ok beat this at certain areas in a hold that I approch , the guards (only one or two) tell me i shouldn't be here and I'm tresspassing, they give me final warning then attack me and the others soon join, yet I have no bounty and I have been to these places 100 times
