Defeating Miraak...Possible spoilers ahead!
Hi, all. I'm doing the quest where I have to defeat Miraak after taming the dragon. Miraak keeps getting stuck in ethereal mode so I can't kill him and finish the quest. I've been reading about how other people got past the bug, but nothing is working. I didn't even use a weapon in the last fight. His health got low while I was blocking his attacks. He then killed a dragon and went to the pool in the middle of the temple. I kept waiting for the other dragon to come down. No luck. The one I rode is attacking him, but nothing's happening. I even tried killing the third dragon so he wouldn't have a soul to absorb. What can I do? I would really like to play the quests that follow. Someone mentioned that he can't be killed using the console. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

If he has vanished into the pool. Reading the Black Book Waking Dreams will allow you to gain access to your skill trees. Read the book once more to exit Apocrypha.

Thanks for replying. If he isn't defeated, how will I be able to continue the Dragonborn questline?

Try reading this - I hope it can give some clues:

I was able to manipulate the quest stages via console, but now I have the battle music playing in a constant loop (which I'm about to fix). Wasn't able to loot his corpse. He remained impaled by the tentacle with his health at 25% or so. I don't even know if I absorbed his soul or not. The skill tree icons popped up. I chose not to change any perks. The quest is listed as completed. I was able to return to the Skaal village and speak with Storn's daughter. Kinda ruins immersion, but I'm glad I can progress through the game now. Is his armor and weapon worth having? I'm already playing through a new quest. I don't really care to have the mask. Just wondered about his weapons and robe...On the plus side, I was able to loot the three dragons. I really like the dragon bone armor and weapons. Thanks again! :-)

I found a solution that worked for me. I found that the Unofficial Skyrim patch was causing the problem, when i killed a dragon any dragon it would not brun up but just sit there i could loot it but thats all, i absorbed no soul. Same when i was fighting Miraak, he could not absorb the souls because of the patch and just stood in the green goo in Etheral mode, however when i disabled the mod it worked fine Miraak did his thing and absorbed the dragon souls then died as he should i just make sure that i kept my distance from each slain dragon as you may take the soul instead. Hope this can maybe helps other people who may be stuck. Maybe the patch affects the DLC in other ways also.

I looted Miraak but put his outfit on one of the Manekins. I did not think it better than the Ebony armour I have been improving by smithing and enchanting.

Thank you so much for posting this! I had noticed that I wasn't absorbing souls, but I thought it was happening because I'd already killed a blood dragon, for instance, in the same vicinity. I'm not sure where I read this, but someone else wasn't absorbing dragon souls. They were told that they would not be able to absorb the same species' soul in their current location after the first kill. Just to be sure, I uninstalled the Unofficial Skyrim patch and now I am absorbing all dragon souls. :-)

I checked my saved souls. It looks like I didn't absorb Miraak's soul plus the ones he stole from me before. I began to have problems with the game crashing to desktop after installing that patch as well as the Hearthfire patch, not to mention that every time I exit the game, Steam freezes and I have to end task. I just wish I could figure out what's causing it as it's annoying.

There's a text file called "bootstrapper..." showing up in task manager that I'm not familiar with. It might be what's left of a mod for a player home that I subscribed to called "Legend of the Eagle's Nest" in the Steam Workshop. I never noticed it before installing that mod or the patches. At this point, I think it's best to leave my files alone. All I know is that it has "bot" in the name and there are several language files, including Korean, listed when I do a search. I can see that I already have some language files with Skyrim in the name.

If anyone knows what the files are, please let me know. Thanks a million!

I appreciate your letting me know. I've been collecting weapons and armor. Ebony is also one of my favorites. My smithing skill is maxed. I truly enjoy the craftsmanship. When I wear robes, I tend to get killed quite often. :-D My current armor is rated 270+.
