Skyrim Nexus
Is there any difference between the Steam workshop and the Skyrim nexus. I've heard it mentioned but don't know much about it.

Yes;

Both are good but the Nexus has:
More mods [many exclusive to the Nexus], larger mods [Workshop capped at 100 mb].

However, getting the same mod from the workshop over the nexus shouldn't matter as they would be the same [unless one version is updated, and the other is not].
I actually use a combination of both the Nexus and Workshop.

The most popular mods on nexus are hentai naked womans in lingerie with re-modelled large breasts. Steam just doesnt do that.

Steam allows users to say if a mod is shi♥ty and will damage your game, or that it's just shi♥ty in general and down-vote it to warn other users.. Nexus bans people for saying anything at all negative and only allows you to up-vote, which gives a false representation of a mods worth by preventing you from seeing how much people may dislike it.

Nexus has a much larger selection of mods, but as mentioned above, it's due mostly to the giant collection of porn mods.

Workshop is limited in how large a mod can be in file size. Nexus does not have this limit.

Apparently the people above look for porn and then complain when they find it.

Nexus current Top Mods: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/top//?

No porn. There are adult mods there. If that's not something you are interested in, register for an account (it's free) and use the filters. You'll never see the adult stuff.

edit: To actually answer your question, beyond file size (which is an issue). The biggest difference is control. With Nexus, you control your updates. Steam updates mods automatically, which while it can be a nice feature, can also mess up your game if the update has and issue or a change in requirement.

Also, you shouldn't have any issue with the moderation on the Nexus forums if you're not a jerk. Pass on by if you're not interested in a mod. Be polite and be contructive if you have something to say about a mod and you should be fine.

In other words, don't act the way people do here. They won't put up with it there.

Also, in my experience Nexus Mod Manager is not bloatware and works just fine.

Nexus has the most mods. It's currently the biggest place to get mods for TES games, at least if you don't wanna deal with moonrunes. It has the ♥♥♥♥tiest fanbase and the ♥♥♥♥tiest moderation system. Not to mention their software is bloatware garbage. They allow pretty much everything except naked loli (child) races and 'offensive' stuff.

Workshop is a more niche way to get your mods. Logically, it has much fewer mods. The fanbase isn't much better, and it's actually stricter when it comes to what you can publish and what you can't. Getting mods through it is a pain in the ♥♥♥, and so is uninstalling them.

So, I'd stick with the Nexus between these two. You can avoid everything ♥♥♥♥ty about it and just stick with the decent mods. Don't post on the forums/comment section, don't get involved with the moderation, and if possible don't get NMM.

No porn.
Porn is not allowed in the top files due to the list can be seen by "guest browsers," so your point is completely invalid, and childishly trollish.

Whatever you say Cookie. You find what you're looking for.

For the sake of fairness, I logged in turned off my filters and looked again. CBBE was the only change, which is not in itself a pron mod. One out of 25.

Yes, people look for porn by searching the word armor. Everybody who has ever used the site knows this, I honestly don't understand your delusion over this easily varifiable fact.

This conversation has taken place more times than I care to count, I have no interest in being part of yet another one, so I'm done.

I'd just like to know why I'm registered to their forums, but it keeps saying I need to validate when I go try to get the mod manager.

I went through the process three times, same thing.

The logins for the forums (where you have to register) and the mod area are seperate, make sure you're logged in on the mod side.

As was mentioned before in this thread USE THE FILTERS (not to be confused with the usual search filters when you use the search function). You can do this by clicking your username in the upper right corner while browsing skyrim nexus, and choose "edit preferences". Then change the filters so that YOU NEVER see an adult mod again there (unless you go back to settings and untick that box again). Btw, you can also add filters so you never see a player home, an armor mod, or whatever it is you for whatever reason don't want to see at all there.

Now this is from my understanding just the opinion of the youtube user "miracleofsound" (if you don't know who he is you should definetely check out his videos) and thus is just one guy's opinion, but so is yours. There are a lot of people that like the moderation at nexus, otherwise it wouldn't be the largest community to date. Doesn't mean that everyone will like it, but one should try to make up their own opinion then. Act as you would in real life with the people you speak to right in front of you, and you will be fine as far as I see it.

There is nothing stopping you from using both though, whether it comes to the mod managers or the forums.

Now it has been a few years since I first created my Nexus account, but that sounds like it is asking you to validate by clicking the link you should have received in an e-mail. Have you done that?

Otherwise, as Stabbykitteh said, sometimes you can be logged in the forums, but not in the mod section. When trying to download the nexus mod manager, check the upper right corner. Does it show your username there?

Wrong and wrong. First, popular =! good. Second, if it were as popular as you're saying, it'd be because of the MODS, not because of the moderators.

...And why do you think that people UPLOAD those very same mods to nexus instead in the very first place? Upload limit might be part of the reason, but it's not like all the nexus exclusive mods hits the steam upload cap. Did you manage to miss all the fuss about stolen content on the workshop?

I'm not sure what you mean with "popular =! good"? If you mean that "popular" is NOT the same thing as "good", then I agree. But that's because what's "good" is highly subjective depending on who you ask, wheras something being popular is harder to deny. WoW is extremely popular, THE most popular MMO ever. That doesn't mean that I think it's any good though, personally. I still can't deny that the general consensus of that game is pretty positive, however.

Yes, I used both links, and they send me to the same place - the place that registers you to the forums. I tried registering from the mods site, it sent me to the exact same pages. And no, when I go to the mods site, it doesn't say I'm logged in, while I'm logged in on the forums page.

Maybe I should have paid the one-euro fee thing.
