Alternate Start - Mod?
Hi folks,

Probably a daft question, I'll try searching...
But for anyone who can answer in the next minute, what's the name of the mod that creates an alternate start for the game?

Man I'm bored of that cart ride...

There are many of these type of mods out there on nexus and steam. Just search for them.

Here is one of them I found.

Alternate Start - Live Another Life by Arthmoor, on both the Steam Workshop and Nexus. Gives lots of different options from which to choose, and it is fabulously done. Just be sure to read the installation instructions and follow them carefully if you use it. :)

Hope this helps.

Also available on Nexus, I haven't tried it (yet) but it's quite popular.

Stabby and zoom were thinking the same thing. You never see that here. LOL

:) Thanks folks. I knew it was something obvious like 'Alternate beginnings' or something.

Search for Alternate Beginnings then Use the force if you have to. You just might find it.

Probably not, or at least it shouldn't. It really only effects the beginning of the story as far as I remember. But I wouldn't install it until you're ready to use it in another game anyway just to be on the safe side.

I hope it doesn't! It looks like an awesome mod! Anyways, thanks! :D

There are 2 I know about, one is the Alternate Start Live another life mod by Arthmoor and Random Alternative start by Syclonix. The Alternative start mod uses major quest locations for some start points and runs the risk of breaking those quests if you explore those areas and trip the triggers early. So I do not recommend that mod.

Syclonix's Random Alternative start mod is much safer and uses unimportant start locations and even handles the Helgen quest okay.

Even if you install my Return to Helgen mod and didnt do the early helgen quest the default game has, you can still walk around the edge of Helgen and start the main quest that way even if you cannot get in to helgen.

So it works great, had no problems with it so far.

I read what a modder says and look for some understanding of basic modding issues before I subscribe to a mod.

I do recommend the Character Creation Overhaul too if you use the Random Alternative Start mod. The 2 work well together and bring back some depth to the character creation process that was stripped out of Skyrim for the Xbox crowd.

Thanks Giskard, great comment :)

Alternate Start by Arthmoor doesn't break any quest and it works great. Nuff said.

Other similar mods *are* known to break quests though.

Erm. Being that I've been using Arthmoor's Alternate Start for a while now and tried a couple of the various options offered in it (because I like to test mods to make sure they'll play nice with my other junk before getting serious) and having not encountered any game-breaking issues... well, I think calling the mod perfectly safe is a fair conclusion. It hasn't proven me wrong yet, at any rate.

That being said, it should be treated with as much care and precaution as any other mod out there, especially if you're using a lot of different mods at the same time.

But that's just what I think. :)

Evidence counts for more than vindictive speculation. Especially since you don't seem to have actually used the mod for any length of time or you'd know that what you're suggesting is totally false.

Here's a suggestion. Stop taking every opportunity you can to slyly insult my work. You don't see me running around these forums taking every half related chance I can to hurl insults in your direction so I'd appreciate it if you'd keep your snide remarks to yourself with regard to my work.

Arthmoor (AKA Samson of the iguanadons website).

Evidence... okay.... here is one issue off the top of my head, one of several btw.

BLACKREACH is a major quest location used by the College of winterhold and it is also one of your start locations. A place surrounded by major quest features that players are not supposed to be able to reach until they get to it as part of the college quest line.

But you start players down there at level 1 in a game that has a nasty habbit of remembering the state of scripts the first time they run. Not to mention the spawns all being locked to level 1 as a result of the early visit.

That is called fair critisum from an EXPERT QUEST MOD MAKER.
Get used to it...I had too, you made sure of that.

Also on the topic of vindictive behavior. I have no 3 year old 32 page thread (last post is from this year btw) of pure hate on my website attacking you. But you do have such a thread attacking me, attacking my site, my mods and everything else.

You have shown no willingness to leave me be, so do not expect my cooperation any time soon. Especially whilst threads like that exist.
