Steam Update causes Skyrim to CTD
Just to let you know that the new Steam Update requires your Real-time Virus Scanning to be turned off for it to complete. If it's not completed, Skyrim will crash to desktop when your virus scan detects it. At least my game did anyways.

it's not the update causing the problem, nor is it the game.

You're old save may not be as useless as you think. Contact tx3000 and maybe he can help you out.

Mine tried to reinstall the $#@ update every time I started Steam, which led to a never-ending circular installing frenzy. My game also started crashing on fast travel. Finally deactivated scanning and installed it, and it seemed to work, but now Steam is telling me the game isn't installed. Strange.

I suppose I should have been a bit clearer...I meant to say Steam Client Update...for clarity they inform you in the notice for update that this is a problem (conflict with real-time virus scan) and that you'll need to turn it off so the client update can update (and then turn it back on once finished). I noticed that I kept CTD for no apparent reason and when I went to re-start a steam update pop-up would show up. I wondered why it was necessary to update every so often during the day...doh!
