There is Vigilance who you can buy in Markarth, Meeko who can find on the road between Dragon Bridge and Morthal, and Stray Dog, who you can find randomly fighting wolves in the wilderness.

The Stray Dog is often near the Riften area (for me), but why would you want a dog? the constant barking, pushing, shoving and alway's getting in your way will drive you crazy. Unless you just want to keep the pet dog at your home, even then they are just cute to look at but will still drive you crazy with their noise.

Quite true. It is the same with followers, especially Companions...minus the barking.

Although not actually a 'dog'- Riekling Followers from Solstheim provide much reliable pet companions since they function as followers to enable carrying your equipment. Also wears any gear given and can be added with another follower- they can be 'sneaky' to an extent of sound as long you give them Muffle enchant on their boots. :)

If you want a dog that CANNOT die, then get Barbas from " A Daedra's Best Friend" quest line in Falkreath. It is considered essential for the quest. However, he is annoying as heck with his barking and constant nudging you, even while sneaking. He almost nudged me off a cliff.lol
