2 accounts on same computer
OK, so 2 of my sons have Steam accounts, and they share the family computer. Today I bought each of them Skyrim. No matter which account they are signed in to, they keep overwriting each others save files. They have seperate desktops, seperate steam accounts, I bought 2 copies of the game, so why are the saves overwriting each other? Is there a way around this? Thanks in advance for any help.

Skyrim (on any user account or Steam account) places its Save data in

Documents\my games\Skyrim\(your save data here)

Its not an issue of which User or which Steam account.

Its an issue of how Skyrim places its Save data.

I have never had this problem as I am the only person using my computer, however I have a suggestion that my fix your sons problem.

Give each of them a flash-drive. Each time they play they will have to copy their save data from their flash-drive to Documents\my games\Skyrim\.

Each time the play they will also have to copy their save data from Documents\my games\Skyrim\ to their respective flash-drives.

Sounds like a lot of work -I know- but it will carry them through until you find an easier fix.

I just realized something else as well.

I hate to tell you this, but you had no need to buy two copies of the game...

You could have bought one copy of Skyrim, and your sons could simply have played on different save files. I have more than three characters at this very moment.

Skyrim will still save its data to Documents\my games\Skyrim\ but it will save many different characters.

If your sons are saving over each others save data they much be using the same name for their characters, which is odd to say the least.

Quick- and autosaves always overwrite. Hard saves won't. (Esc, save, new save) Creating a hard save when leaving the game is always wise.

Each of them having their own user on the system should fix this pretty promptly.

That's what doesn't make sense to me. They both have seperate user accounts on the PC, but the save files are still going to both users, no matter which is playing.

I thought I might get by with only buying one copy, but Steam had such a good sale on Skyrim yesterday, I'm only out an extra 8 bucks, so live and learn...

Thanks for the advice guys, maybe try the flash drive work-around for now, until I figure out a better solution.
