Can I play this game like a sandbox?
Hey I might pick this up but was wondering if I can skip the story entirely and just play the game in a sort of sandbox fashion? Thanks

Elder Scrolls games (and some related games from Bethesda, like Fallout 3) are held by many as the archetypal sandbox RPGs.

You have to play through a little tutorial at the beginning. After that you can do pretty much whatever you want. The main storyline is a miniscule part of the game.

Go to Skyrim Nexus and download the mod "Alternate Start - Live Another Life" so you dont have to go through the intro.

Absolutley you can not follow any of the quests if you don't want to, you can just hunt deer if that what you want. The game is one huge sandbox. DragonFist has good advice to use "Alternate Start" It lets you start in a random location rather than at the start of the main quest.

Ok well does the game still show you the objectives or can you cancel them so they don't show up at all? Also is there eating and drinking to stay alive, or a mod that adds it? I'd like to have that survival aspect to it.

@Emton - Yes you can toggle quest indicators, and there is a mod for everything in Skyrim... Drinking and eating too :) If you're looking for "survival" mods, there is one for cold weather too, depends on what you're looking for but it does change the way you play a lot (a blizzard will probably kill you).

I'd say for £10 (if you're in the UK) this game is very worth it as you can sink so many hours into it and still have stuff to do... My most played game and I still haven't finished, don't even get me started on graphics :3

Yeah, there's tons of mods. This game has the best Steamworks support of any game I own on Steam. There's also the Nexus but there's really no reason to jump through 3rd party hoops IMO.

Yea that sounds good. I was thinking being suppectible to cold would be cool, as well has having to rest. Frostfall is the name of the mod http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/11163/? seems to have some cool stuff. I think I'll get the lengendary (on sale for like $20) And add Frostfall, SkyUI and Immersive Armors to start.

Yes. This is one big advantage of Skyrim, and TES games in general. You don't even need to complete any quests. Just go exploring, find some dungeons, beat some bad guys, and there you go.

Ah I'll also add Realistic Needs and Diseases mod for the hunger part http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/26228/?
Emton 28 nov., 2013 @ 3:21am
Oh and add to that HunterBorn http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/33201/? Ok so that seems to cover the survival aspect; Frostfall for the environment, HunterBorn for hunting, Realistic Needs for hunger and thirst. Also gonna add Fishing in Skyrim http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/16139/?
Any other mods that add survival aspects?

Edit: Oh yea I might try Hardcore Compass mod too http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/1810/?
