I haven't been playing Skyrim much recently
So I haven't been playing much recently for a few reasons.

Partially because I have health issues and can't spend too much time at the computer and I know if I start playing Skyrim there's a chance I'll end up playing for 2-3 hours straight which isn't good if I'm having back pains.

Also, the battles are kind of laggy and I'm not great with the controls especially when this happens. I feel sort of exhausted sometimes afterwards.

Another thing is I'm having problems figuring out the difficulty. I found adept challenging with my first character, but there were also a lot of times where things were too easy. One of the things I didn't get to do with my first character was sneak attacks so I figured I'd go solo this time. This would also be a good way to boost the difficulty since things were easier with Lydia tanking all the time. I did have fun sneak attacking, but I also got lonely so now I think I want to play with a follower again.

I am planning on boosting the difficulty a little bit now that I'll be using a follower again. I think expert might be too hard in places so I'm using a mod that only decreases your damage, but doesn't increase enemy damage. I'm also using a mod that spawns tougher versions of an enemy so instead of a bandit you get a bandit thug and instead of a regular draugr you get a deathlord. I'm hoping I'll still be able to sneak attack because that was fun. I was wondering will increasing difficulty decreases your followers' damage as well. Because even if I do less damage it's still going to be easy if Lydia does a lot of damage.

Maybe someone else can answer your Skyrim query SuperLotus, but I just wanted to wish you well and hope your health improves soon. :)

I’m not enthusiastic about mods that change the difficulty (for various reasons). I would use enchanting in- game to make tough fights a bit easier.

I used a simple mod to help me get started at legendary level and added a fairly powerful follower set at essential in the Sleeping Giant Inn in Riverwood.

I would suggest that you play at expert and think about the right follower. Jennissa in Whiterun is a good option. If you play at master, it pays to invest heavily in enchanting, alchemy and smithing.

A question I had that might have gotten lost in the mini rant I posted. Does increasing the difficulty reduce the damage your follower does or just your own damage?

Increasing the ingame difficulty gives all npcs more damage and health. What happens is as you increase the difficulty you start doing less damage and take more damage, this does not apply to npc's, so your follower will still deal and take the same damage as if you were playing on novice. This can lead to issues with you seemingly doing 0 damage at times and your followers becoming what seems to be dearth incarnate.

@Rashem: Thanks
I think I found a thread that gives a fix for follower damage:
http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/989230-apply-difficulty-settings-to-followers-follower-damage-reduction/
AttackDamageMult command, which should work for every non-magic attack:
*click follower* (his ID appears)
forceAV AttackDamageMult 0.25
This should reduce the damage done by followers by 75%.

I have a question about this though. Do I have to use this console command every time I load my game or just the first time? And does anyone know of a mod that will do this?

I think maybe I'll just give Lydia an iron dagger rather than messing around with console commands. I know with other console commands I had to type them in again every time I played. I'm not sure what I'll do if I get Serana as a follower. Even the console command doesn't affect magic.
