download BOSS and let it sort your modloadorder
find it via google. all instructions can be found there either

90% of CTD (crash to desktop) is caused by load order or missing a masterfiles all together. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t6MxLBcSgkc This video is made by Gopher he is a well know game modder and makes some very useful instructional videos on just about everything about modding ones game. I would highly recommend you give this one a chance, it's saved me more grief than i could (or want to) admit to.

I've had no trouble just manually checking each mod has its 'parent' esp/esm in NMM. Though I will say, I did find a mod that was working in-game that SHOULD have caused CTD at start up due to a missing esm/esp but didn't for some reason. IT was one of the less mainstream mods (I'll just say that) so there might have been some jiggery-pokery at their end. But I digress.

And yea, in my experience, missing esm/esp where another mod is dependent on that data is usually the culprit for CTD at start up.

after the last patch some mods don't run well with the game. I disabled most of the stuff an re-enabled one after another. Works fine now.

you can check your plugin order via %appdata% in search

Sometimes updates will cause mods to have issues until new versions of the mods come out. You can always manually disable the mods launch the game with one active, if it works, quit, activate the next mod, wash rense repeat until you find the mod that's causing the problem.

if you go to LIBRARY and right click the game, then hit options, there is a thing to verify your cache. when Steam uninstalled that 'free' DLC i had to redownload 9 files (4.4 gigs) to get it going again.

i have found recently that quickly going into your documents
my games
skyrim
saves
and delete all but two character saves
and leave two auto saves .bak + .ess i think
and the CTD stops right away (for me anyways)

for me changing from ultra to high and manually setting resolution/AA/AF worked and no more CTDs.
