Skyrim mod cap
I'm aware that the mod cap for Skyrim is 255, but for some odd reason whenever I try to load more then 44 mods the game goes black on load and stops responding. PC specs available if anyone thinks that is a factor. Also thats 44 mods including the DLC, which takes it down belong 40 sadly. :(

When you hit the mod cap it does not go black screen.. I've got 255 mods installed. you have a problem with load order or mods conflicting.

It is most likely your mods, either a conflict between 2 mods or more likely your mod order. Download BOSS from nexus, a program that when run, looks at your mod order, and rearranges the mods against its master list. That fixes a lot of CTDs Try that first, Disabling mods and testing can take a lot longer, if you are trying to find mod conflicts.

Yeah. I have heard people have over 300 when i get home ill try a mod from nexus if it does not work I dont know how they installed and have over 300 mods and have them active at once. Sure i have 280 mods intstalled but not matter what one i turn on if it goes over that limit skyrim is buggy and glichty. Unplayble..

A Friend? I have never chatted with anyone that has hit the limit or gone over it before. I don't know if the problem I have is the same with everyone else that hits the limit or goes over it.. I would like to know. :l Its like all my mods break at once but I can still play only just. Takes a forever to move though. Not because of lag because a dumb window always pops up.

I have both nexus mod manager and boss installed, I've tried different mod configs and orders and still getting the problem.

Uninstall or turn them off.. the mods and reinstall or turn on, one by one.

It didn't before but the Alpha build of SKSE version 7 has SSME built into it, and you do not need ENBoost to use that feature with it.

255 plugins is the cap. You can have as many mods as you want so long as you don't hit the plugin cap. I hit the limit just last week before a removed a bunch of mods to make room for a new character.

They have over 255 mods because they are using bash and merge tools to bash and merge plugins together - there is a hardcoded 255 *plugin* limit. Since most mods are a single plugin people tend to think mod = plugin.

Upon hitting the plugin limit the game simply will not let you activate anymore plugins in the launcher (can't get around that in NMM either).

If your game is doing anything wonky its because of conflicts between plugins or, possibly, some of the mods are eating a large percentage of system resources.

1. Do you have a 64 bit OS with more than 4 Gb of RAM?
2. Do any of your mods require SKSE?
3. If no, Do you have SKSE installed? You *should* anyway - it now comes with a memory manager tool that will stop the most common cause of CTD's
4. Have you run BOSS to sort your load order? This will help put mods in and order that minimizes the chances for conflicts *and* will tell you if your missing resources for a mod (if its on the recognized list).

Use TESVEdit and WryBash - there's no way to get beyond the 255 plugin limit short of re-writing the .exe.
