Is it worth to start now?
I never played any of the Skyrim games and I am considering to buy the ES V on discount right now. I am not planning to get DLC at the moment, just the original game. The question is if it is worth trying.

I understand that people here are Skyrim's zealots but please try to give me an objective opinion.

i never played Oblivion or Morrowind, as a matter of fact: skyrim is my first RPG i ever played.
For me, it was the perfect game to start with RPG's, it is an open game, the using of MODs is very easy (aslong as you know what you are doing).
It is easy to play and easy to understand.

I say: go for it, get the complete game (included DLC's) and I bet you can not stop play.
It is an addictive game!

.. best thing to do is take a look at some gameplay videos on youtube. The 'Let's play' videos tend not to emphasize mods, so they're a good place to start. It's a steal at $7.50 and the $20 for Legendary's one of the lowest prices I've seen on steam.

I had never played any of the previous Elder Scroll games either. A lot of my friends had ranted and raved about this game over the past year or so. I happened to see Amazon had a deal on the Complete Collection for $25 I think it was and I had a $5 Credit for Video games so I got it for $20. It included all the Elder Scroll games including Oblvion & Morrowind and of Course Skyrim as well as the DLCs. Im not sure if I will ever get around to the other games but I haven't been able to stop playing Skyrim. There is so much to do. You could play the game for hundreds of hrs and still not be done. Trust me spend the $7.50.

you just need to look at hours people played of the game

that tells you if the game is worth the money

check the reviews on the store page and you will see people playing 100's of hours

buy the legendary edition you will be sorry if you dont

(English is not my native language,so sorry for mistakes)
It all depends of your tastes in game industry. If you like rpg and especially Bethesda games.I advising you to buy legendary edition. If you are doubt in some ways.Buy vanilla. And after some playing, decide about DLC.You are actually nothing loosing by playing only original game in the beginning.Because DLC are not much intertwine with original Skyrim.

it's not an mmo, it's a single player game. And focus entirely on one thing : having fun.

It's buggy, like every BethSoft game ever released. But it's definitely worth the money, especially during Steam Sales. Get the Legendary edition, it's totally worth it.

Thank you all for your comments. I guess I will give it a shot.

Hours of playing do not tell a lot about a game because Tetris is probably the most addictive game ever and has the greatest milage counter :)
I wanted to know if the Skyrim V was friendly for a newcomer.

About a video game?

Anyway, yeah Skyrim is worth trying. It's easy to get into, there's a lot of game here, and it's all pretty fun.

Totally worth, but I would play also Morrowind and Oblivion. My first one was Oblivion and I loved it.

For the discount at the moment it's totally worth it!

I have only played Oblivion before skyrim of all the Elder Scrolls games. I still can't remember why I bought it, as I thought that a first person RPG was a very stupid idea.

TES are some of the best games you will ever play. Yes they have a myriad of bugs (fixable by mods), and their story is not always incredible (Oblivion had better quest stories in my opinion than Skyrim but w/e), but these games really create a WORLD. Their attention to detail is absurd. It's hard to describe, but imagine that in Oblivion for example, you would find wines, and you could go to the very vineyard they made them, and talk to the producers of the wine, whose names were on the bottles along with the year. Same for books etc etc. Skyrim has the best combat of every Elder Scrolls and a nice and streamlined leveling system. I cannot think of anyone who would enjoy adventures and freedom and not line this game.

I recommend it wholeheartedly.

Especially at that price. You could also buy the legendary edition with the dlcs, because if you buy them later on, it will be more expensive, but I haven't played any of the dlcs yest and I don't know how good they are. Even if you don't want to buy them, it's absolutely fine since Skyrim alone has an insane amount of content that can keep you playing for hundrends of hours, and you can easily add new quests, even new places through mods.
