Carry weight - What do you do? Mods, give items to followers, or neither (hardcore)
So I haven't used any mods to increase my carry weight except weightless ingredients, but I have been using a follower which also seems kind of cheap. I'm trying to decide what to do for my next playthrough. I want things to be balanced, but I also like the idea about dragging some of my loot back to town. I'm using a tougher economy mod so I don't get much for my loot although I do convert some armor and weapons to smithing supplies so even the low value items have value.

I like the Knapsack Backpack mod. It gives a bonus to carryweight that you choose and it isnt' too unbalancing.

I give items to followers if I'm being weighed down. I'm not sure why you would describe this as cheap exactly. Isn't what they're best at?

All you need is the Bandolier mod. It will sort you out. Also, if you have the latest version of Skyrim you have the Legendary branch on your skill trees. One of them allows you to advance your encumbrance by 50-100 at a time. I use both and at Lv 71 I can carry 1030.

There is no wrong way to play Skyrim ofc, but followers can carry several hundred lbs/kgs/units of items so you're basically doubling your carry weight. I'm actually not sure how much they can carry, but it seems practically limitless.

One alternative I'm considering is using the uncapper to give myself 5 extra carry weight upon level up regardless of whether I increase stamina, health, or magicka. I like getting extra bonuses from leveling up. The bandolier/backpack is another option. I might just continue to stuff my things inside Lydia (that sounds wrong...) I haven't really decided yet. Just curious what other people are doing.

I think it might be limitless if you command them to pick up something but I don't enjoy that kind of thing. I want to play with some limitations. Encumberance can be a bummer but at least it's a limitation.

Bag of Holding, very useful for the solo character. An option to do a quest to get it or have it put in inventory straight away.

I just used the glitch that lets you create insanely strong potions. Made some enchanting potions then enchanted some boots so I can carry 3000 pounds. Haven't used any mods myself either.

T3ndo's Skyrim Redone adds in the Bandoliers mod, which gives you a variety of bags and backpacks for a slight carry weight increase, and also includes Feather spells in the Alteration school, like Oblivion did.

I sturggled for so many hours being over encumbered, but that was my own fault for looting so much.
It's quite possible to mnimise and keep under the level.

I don't have a follower (they impulsively try to run around killing things when I want to keep sneaky) and I am stiull on my first playthrough so I'm intending to keep it 'vanilla'.
One thing which is an immersoion-breaker, but perfectly possible is to dump a load of stuff somewhere for retreval later.

I have Vilja as a companion and she's pretty useful in that area. I always give her loot to sell, which takes away a lot of the weight and then send her to sell it all once we get to a town. I almost always have the steed stone blessing too so I have a bigger carry weight.

As a few others have pointed out this is a great mod, you can put various pouches all over you, so you can have a carry range from just a bag or get covered in pouches, shoulder straps etc, so it really fits in with the lore of the game without going too insane or resorting to bugs/potions/cheats or using a follower to get around the limit. (I like stealthy characters and never travel with a companion if I can help it)
