The Ebony Warrior
I recently just tried to take this guy on like a real warrior (none of that magic ♥♥♥♥ or cheap sneaking attacks)... and he just kicked my ass in less than a minute, despite the fact I have over 1000 health and max armor. This guy can easily take on Alduin and is probably the strongest person in all of Tamriel... So why have we never heard of this guy? He also has powers such as the thuum (where the hell did he learn that), so why has no npc even mentioned this guy in the game? Dosen't make sense for such a powerful person to go unnoticed like this, kinda feels like Bethesda got lazy and added him at the last minute. Oh, and one more thing: How does Redguard go to Sovngarde? Each race has a specific place to go to in Aetherius, Sovngarde for Nords, and others aren't specified. Anyone else think the same?

Yeah, the ebony warrior always bothered me. In the Requiem overhaul, he actually comes in at like level 30 and I was quite surprised to see him. I then, in my mind, presented him with a rather long, detailed list of all the crap I have to do as Dragonborn and bid him good day, saying he can send me a notification via courier when he's done with his silly pity party over at his vigil and wants to get his crap together and help me save the world.

I hate the ebony warrior. What a whiner, I refuse to send him to Sovngarde. Help me with Alduin, ya dummy!

When you met the Ebony Warrior in Whiterun didn't you listen to him, he is you basically. All the things you are doing in the game, he has already done - now it's time for Sovngarde and only YOU can kill him, he's to strong for anyone else...

Of course I listened to him, but I'm not playing as a Redguard, now am I? ;)

I didn't encounter the Ebony Warrior until level 80. By then I was pretty powerful and was able to defeat him. I don't think it matters that he is male and a Redguard. I was neither at the time.

Except the Dragonborn is known throughout Skyrim, and some npcs even refer to you as so, while the Ebony Warrior is just as strong but completely unnoticed.

He's more of an easter egg than a fleshed out character; one which has appeared in previous TES games. His role is to basically kick the ass of overconfident players who think they've levelled themselves up to the point where nothing can challenge them. He's somewhat similar to M'aiq the Liar (that Khajiit who runs around breaking the fourth wall, who must be many hundreds of years old by the time you meet him in Skyrim).

The reason why the Ebony Warrior is tough is manly due to the Reflect Blows perk, turning our own melee attacks against us which can outright kill most of us - or really hurt.

This is why Mages and Theives have an easier time.

What I don't get is why didn't Bethseda make him immune to stagger so he couldn't get stagger locked and/or gave him more anti-mage/thief stuff, that doesn't make any sense if he is supposed to kick our ass!

Could be the case the Ebony Warrior is some sort of Shezarrine created for a specific purpose. The most well known ones are the great heroes of legend (The Champion of Cyrodiil, The Last Dragonborn, Pelinal Whitestrake, Ysmir Wulfharth (also known as The Underking) etc), but there are likely minor ones that play important roles and don't become famous because the feats they accomplished are not made public.

I killed him with no problem. And unsubscribed because by the time I was able to kill him easily, my gear was far better than his and I didn't need him. So, as I said, I unsubscribed, erased the files associated with him. I've since gotten a new computer, redownloaded Skyrim. But he still appears in Whiterun sometimes. Not with every new game but sometimes he is there and tells me to meet him at the Last Vigil.
How do I get him to not be in my game? I don't know where the files are. I can't even find the origional mod anymore.

You can earn a place in Sovngarde, even if you aren't a Nord. Tsun personally guarantees you a spot when you meet him, regardless of race. As for his reputation- maybe he's been doing all this stuff in some other part of the world?

Maybe he's the Nerevarine, bored with being an invincible one-man army and ready to seek death.

You can't "unsubscribe" from vanilla content. He's part of the base game.[www.uesp.net]

Everyone's experience with the Ebony Warrior is particular to which difficulty setting you had when attempting to take him on. In my case, it was Legendary. I had a kick ass Orc who got totally destroyed by him in less than 30 secs. It took a new wizard character, 2 dremora lords (fire), Serana (drain, ice) and me double lightning his ass - 15 minutes to kill him. He's that freakin tough.
Note: He levels with you, which is 90% of your current level. Thus, at level 80, he's level 72, etc.
My dead Orc was level 130.

Jesus, I'm about to fight him in the Requiem overhaul with my ranger character, I look forward to fighting the Ebony Warrior.

Actually he may be a reference to Ebonarm, the yokudan god of war iirc. He appeared in TES: Daggerfall, and then all info about him vanishes. I mean the Ebony Warrior isn't Ebonarm, perhaps its an avatar of the god. Some people say that the thu'um that he uses in reality its "swordsinging", an old yokudan power forgotten by the ages.
