Need help using LOOT with NMM
Hey guys, so I played all sorts of Skyrim, with various different combinations of Mods while I was deployed last. Recently started it up again, and had some issues with my load order, or at least I think it is load order. I saw someone recommend LOOT to someone, and I am lost on how to use it. Installed it just fine, and I am wondering is it supposed to change the load order in the NMM, or just in the startup screen? Also, should I continue to start Skyrim through the NMM, or through Steam? I appreciate any input.

Do not start Skyrim through NMM or Steam, since you are using SKSE you have to run it through that program instead.

The only two real buttons you will need to use is "Sort Plugins" and "View Last report".

Sort Plugins- Basically sorts your lord order which is in the data file section within the launcher. Let the process run till it's finish. Once then LOOT will generate a report on things right or wrong with the load order. If you see anything wrong within your load order like dirty edits for example. I highly recommend watching Gopher's videos on LOOT

View Last Report- Basically LOOT saves it's last generated report after you run LOOT through the Sort Plugins option.

I think you are mistaking Mod Organizer and SKSE. You don't need to run LOOT to latter. It is just an script extender. It does not have any UI to run SKSE and does not even detect it presence.

Ignore the comment about "sort plugins" option. That is related to MO and not even recommended, because MO sorting tool is usually out of date from main LOOT release.

Otherwise instructions are good. Just run LOOT, when it is properly pointed to your Skyrim installation.

Whenever I run LOOT I always compare it against the NMM plugin list before hitting the LOOT button APPLY. It's interesting to see what recommendations LOOT makes.

Sorry for being slightly off topic OP, but Ilja, just so you know, in the most recent MO which you can get off nexus, the included LOOT is actually the beta version which shouldnt be used for a whole other set of reasons, so we're going to have to adjust for that XD

Yeah. I tested the beta release and it messed up my load order royally. Luckily I had stored the correct order with MO, so it took only a second to fix.

Thank you everyone for your responses. So, after trying to run it through SKSE, I have come to the conclusion (Hopefully I'm right) that one of my mods is creating this issue, and LOOT did not find the issue. Or perhaps one needs to be updated?

Beta 7 is horrific. I did run it several of times and nothing worked. I have one tread here about it.

Do32Sierra.
You can run LOOT from NMM but you should run LOOT separate. NMM cant detect the change in load list if you dont reload NMM.
You can also add one powerful and usefull tool called Wrye Bash.

Funny I don't seem to be having any trouble, so it must depends on your mods!.
Also running latest MO V1.3.3, not the version in nexus and about to upgrade to V 1.3.5.
Also have LOOT Version 7 installed (not MO sort) as well.
Only once did it sort the plugin order wrong, at start of using it, now it is back to the normal load order.

Maybe I have no idea how to use LOOT, lol. I'm pretty new to the modding idea, so if anyone could make it stupid simple for me, I'd appreciate it. Also, I ran LOOT, saw it's recommended load order, and then manually changed the load order in NMM. Then I started Skyrim from the SKSE icon. Is this the wrong way to do it?

You should have let LOOT put in the load order, by using Apply button in it.

Check this video from Gopher.
Little old but it will help you.

LOOT homepage also has Documentation for the tool. This includes pictured tutorials.
