Why ruin such a beautiful world with bad programming?
The world of skyrim is beautiful, the music is beautiful, the sheer volume of voice acting is phenominal, the items in the game are modeled and textured very nicely with a great attention to detail, theres so many tiny details that can be noticed if you just take a closer look at things.

But the programming, the code, the mechanics of the game?
It's all so... generic and shallow, as though they put a minimal effort into it.
The AI derps and teliports around, it doesnt have the sense to jump across certain obstacles.
Followers are always lagging behind and getting stuck on rocks or small pieces of clutter.
Small physical entities on the ground can glitch out and toss you off the side of a mountain, or just flat out cause you to fall dead where you stand.
The fighting is bland and uninteresting, and you get hit by things that you visibly evaded.
There's pointless limitations on mobility, like being unable to sprint and jump at the same time, or to move sideways while sprinting.

The game passes up so many opportunities for good immersion.
Vast quantities of food and potions can be consumed while you freeze time in a menu.
Food is practically useless and are basically just really bad health or regen potions.
The movement and animation is stiff and unatural, making it impossible to really get any cinematic action without limiting it to short clips where the flaws are harder to notice.
The crafting is just as dull, most of your time is spent aquiring materials, and no time at all is spent turning it into complex items.

Why take such a beautiful game and ruin it with bad game design?
Is there a rule that all nice looking games need to have uninspired programming?

simpler mechanics appeal to a wider audience.
Bethesds is known for releasing buggy games.
It's just how it is.

Mods can help with a lot of it.
And favoriting potions helps too

Do you know anything about programming?

Dude, just because it's fun AND this game is from BETHESDA ( BUGTHESDA )

That's not really relevant, all he asks for is possible.
The correct question is "do you know anything about budgets, priorities, a finite amount of personel, managing resources, etc"

I think those who cry the highest for bug are those who mod their games out of proporsions.

There are bugs....but few if we see the size of the game...we are lots of players who have more then 1000 hours in the game, and we see very few gamebreaking bugs.

But it has been popular to cry Bug for some people, and most of them I assume have less then 100 hours, and maybe a lot of mods that shall tranform their game, without aknowledge that if you mod your game, then you also create a new game, which are yours creation.

Shall you complain about bugs, then you shall play ONLY official content, and have a pc and configuration that is above minimum requirement, and not have backgroundsprogram running that might interfere with the game itself, like corrections programs and so on.

How many games in this size have you playd that show no bugs?

It's not the bugs so much, I understand that open world games are prone to it, but rather it is that disproportionate efforts.

Why would they spend such a massive ammount of time on the look of the game, and then just go "meh" on the game mechanics? It's like they put 95% of the budget into how the game looks and sounds, with the last 5% going to actual gameplay.

The depth of the game mechanics simply pales in comparison to the sheer content of everything else.

If this game had crap graphics and crap world design, the game mechanics would be completely inexcusable.

console demographics + limits of console controllers play a big role in this too.

"Sheer volume of voice acting"...I will disagree with that, even though you are correct there is alot of people with dialogue in Skyrim, but if you notice there isn't alot of voice actors doing all the voices (I mean generic NPC's guards, shopkeepers, followers, priests etc etc not major npc's as their voiced by speicfic actors) I think I heard about, 5 voice actors for every single NPC..."you're a friend of mine that means something" I have heard that from many followers and NPC's across Skryim and Solstiehm, so to conclude what I said I agree with volume as in amount of NPC's having dialogue, but disagreeing with diversity in Actors used. :rshout:

They did that knowing People out there would make some really great mods for a more specific and indiviual immersion, and plus with use to console as as well,
@ George I think they did a very good job choosing the right voice actors some of which are simply perfect for certain npc's, while there are a few npcs with the same voice, its does'nt bother me that much I actually find amusing, some of the voice actore actually do different voice for differnt npc's
Hey there you go george you could hire yourself out as voice actor or make a voice actors mod, I'll bet there littlerally no voice mods or such like o.O ^.^

It's all about the Great Console Conspiracy. Next TES is going to be restricted to those with only thumbs and an IQ lower than 80.

So basically: "I agree with you, but because something you didn't say isn't true, I disagree with you."

it's not perfect thats for sure,.but nothing is,.
TES VI should be another advancement,.

Yes there are bugs and they can be annoying,(.I hate getting stuck in a doorway by my follower).,.that drives me nuts
but if is moded slightly it can be a lot of fun,.
I'm in my 50's and I love video games,.I started off with Pong in 1975
I love the game. I would recommand it any of my friends,.
Probably one of the top ten games ever created in my opinion,.
just have to go for the goodstuff,.
It's basically Mario 64 or Zelda on steroids, but there is nothing wrong with that,.
games are made to have fun,.if you not having fun, then you shouldn't be playing it,.

I can't think of any games I've played that're of this size that have Bethesda's ratio of bugs.

I can think of a few games that're of about the same size where I encountered absolutely no crashes or other game breaking bugs.
Most games now have to be dumbed down to fit on consoles. 90% of all video game sales are console, so that is just the way it will probably be.

Gothic 3 comes to mind. Game was a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of bugs at release.

But anyway:

Sigurd (Just standing there, floating above the lumber pile with pieces of chopped wood stuck to his arms - "Don't mean to be rude, but I'm too busy to talk right now."

Indeed! How else is the wood going to get chopped?
