Gimme roleplaying challenges/playthrough ideas!
I'm not talking about builds, pretty sure already I'll be going mage this time. More like morality choices and self imposed rules, like "no fast travel". what fun challenges and rules have you played with recently that I could borrow?

To start off the exchange of ideas:
I like things that both enhance roleplaying and reduce faff. For example my last character did not rob small containers like pots and urns in dungeons, out of respect of the dead and those who left these offerings. This cuts down a lot on time I used to spend underground compulsively looking for every last coin.

I've also considered a partial reversal of the popular "doesn't kill humanoids" and making a character who just really /hates/ people but avoids going after animals or beast-like monsters.

Pure pacifist. Do not kill anyone. Do not use followers or summons to bypass this restriction. Do not fury your foes in an attempt to get around this. Now go through the main questline and at least two other questlines!

Extra challenge #1 - No draugr, dragons, or daedra either. Not even Alduin.

Extra challenge #2 - And no animals! You are a vegetarian and won't even kill for food.

I "Played" once pretending I was a sort of scrap collector... (Skyrim redone mod, Meltdown perk I think it was...) So I Melted down EVERY sword or Armor I found.. And I only used what I made, etc... Only made money Collecting Furs/pelts with Hunterborn mod... I was broke all the time, it was great... lol

Your idea of not killing animals would be great if paired with the Animal Allegiance shout, that thing is so awesome. Snow Bear? Snow-problem! Sic 'em fluffy!
Only use the initial equipment.

Take an arrow to the knee then hobble around Skyrim.

If you ever take an arrow to the knee, delete your safefile and start all over again. Everybody knows that you can only be a City guard after such a wound.

Don't steal anything.

Only take 1 weapon, 1 piece of armor or a couple of jewels per trip away from home. If its a breast plate or a two handed weapon/staff/shield you have to drop your current weapon/shield/staff.

You cannot heal during combat.

You cannot open the spell/equipment interface during combat.

Stamina must stay 50 points behind health.

If a follower goes into recovery, reload.

Forceav your carry weight to 80 pounds.

Pick three skills, and only put perks into them. When you cap out, dont spend any more perks.

Tried it. I had a "battle broom" for parrying and defending myself. character was supposed to "tag" with a small dagger and get a blood sample from every different animal in Skyrim. It got boring quickly, as being low level made travel hard, and slow travel made it difficult to level through other professions. .

@Scott Enman: Scrap collector, I like that idea. Making the loot lugging the point of the game instead of an annoyance at the back of your mind. Plus I can imagine the sort of character who would do that as a sort of slightly mad hermit :D

-Play as a city guard. Very doable! Get Sands of Time or some other mod that increases encounters, and play as a hapless guard trying to fight off rampaging dragons ( / vampires and cultists) until all the ciitizens have been eaten.

@Improper Use: Most of those seem just ways to make the game harder, not really roleplaying choices. I'd rather use mods to make enemies harder, like maybe a deleveler. Though I guess if you're a console player you don't get to do that!

-Don't steal: Yep. just, yep. Unless you're doing thieves' guild quests, or, if you steal, you also make it a rule you can't use shopkeepers at all!

-"Pick three skills" thing sound nice, limiting your abilities is almost a must, at the very least one should stick to one crafting profession, and not be magically a proficient potion master, blacksmith AND enchanter.

-Don't open the interface during combat: I've only just realized you can hotkey potions, it truly does make it more immersive. Durring combat, no menus and limit yourself to what you have on your hotkeys!

Limiting your perk choices to a static value while still enabling the leveling process causes the game to get progressively harder.

Of course this can be limited somewhat by how and what you choose.

Reading through this gave me a huge idea: creating your own faction. Using mods (if available) or just a little bit of creativity, create a home base for your team and get a squad together. Restrain your people to follow certain morals and live by your set of rules. Maybe find a uniform or code of sort to symbolize your guild, and go on adventures with the followers you bring. Become the most powerful group in skyrim.
To get started:
-Trying using some follower mods so that you can set a gathering point for your faction (Ex. "My home is your home")
Find or download a fortress, castle or camp for the faction
-Create a storyline. What kind of faction will you lead? What does your group do in skyrim? Are you praised and respected, or feared and shunned? What are the stories behind all of your faction members?
Get started!
One charachter I wanted to play was as merchant/Private Military Contractor type whose main way of getting money was to have a crew of mercenaries (followers) with no combat skills of his own. I thought doing the sidequests to gain money would be the mainstay of the playthrough. Plus I wanted to try some economy and follower mods. Plus, being a cold blooded mercenary will also give me an excuse to take those ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ bigoted stormcloaks side in the civil war.

Altmer mage who can only wear clothing or Mer armor & weapons. May only carry/collect Mer items. May not even touch any other types of armor/weapons. No fast travel. (Its far more fun anyways). Except for wagons.

I know I'm late to the party but I really like this idea so I installed Skyrim again. I've already decided I'm making an order called either "Titanborne" or "Titangarde" and it's going to be an order of monster hunters for hire... yes inspired by The Witcher series. So thanks for the idea.
