Bugged Main Quest

I have several main quests which I cannot advance. I can't join the Companions because I didn't help against the giant behind the Pelagia farm. I can't get to the third step of the Horn of Jurgren (sp?) because Delphine won't talk to me in the Inn at Riverwood.

I went up to High Hrothgar and got training in the wind sprint. They told me to search for the Horn. I get to where the horn is and find a note to "rent the attic room" at the Riverwood in, and go to the Inn, rent the room, and then nothing. Delphine doesn't come in or open the wardrobe with the false back. Nothing happens and I can't get the horn from her.

There are a couple of other main quests that won't advance, Dark Brotherhood for example.

I have unsubcribed all mods and still can't get these quests to advance.

I have Hearthfire and Dragonborn DLC but I haven't loaded any of the "Unofficial" patches.

Is there something I can do to un-bug these quests? (short of starting a new game that is)

Sounds like you have a mod that is affecting your game in a bad way. If it is was a mod that messed up the quests removign the mod won't fix it as the save game is corrupeted by the mod. You would have to remove the mod then load a previous save before you used the mod to get back to normal.

You don't have to help kill the giant to join the companions. You can go to the inn in whiterun and ask about rumors and she will say something about the companions accepting new members then you go to the leader of companions and join.

Thank you. That would be tantamount to starting a new game since it takes only about 3 hours to get to the start of those quests and I've played for two weeks with the broken quests.

I had a smiliar issue with Delphine - fixed it by "renting" the attic room, and then sleeping for an hour. She appeared as soon as i woke up.

Use LOOT to sort your load-order and tell you of conflicting mods, and also install the unoffical patches to match your game

Hmm .. i didn't try sleeping but I did try just standing there and hitting the "T" key a couple of times. I also sat in the chair for an hour of real time waiting for her to come into the room.
