If SkyUI 5.0 is hosted here, it WILL end up taken down as a paying mod
The SkyUI author has recently said his 5.0 version would be behind the paywall, but again proving the glaring and obvious legal problems with this program, he missed something

To make his mod, he used TweenLite as is clearly and presented stated on his own mod page, on the Workshop, right there : http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=8122 (if you are not convinced or can't bother to look through it, write "SkyUI is using TweenLite" in Google Search)

TweenLite CAN NOT be used for commercial purposes, you would need to buy a license hosted here : http://site-old.greensock.com/club/ valued at 150 $/month. Worse, he's not only one developer. Use the drop-down selection box. That's right, 500 $/month

Thus, the mod would be taken down unless the SkyUI author would agree to pay 500 $/month indefinitely to keep the right to monetize a mod that uses TweenLite

The modder is not even guaranteed a pay unless he grosses out 400 $ (and thus would be paid 100 $). Estimating even a solid price like 5 $ that many users would find ridiculous for a crafting menu (compared to the latest free version) he would have to sell a grand minimum of 625 copies a MONTH to have a NET benefit (with the 25 % cut)

That paid mod thing is looking better and better every minute isn't it ? Quality mods getting sunk because they require utilities that are actually expensive when used for monetization, and free junk mods littering the Paid Mods Approval queue

Glorious. I like it when people btfo of others.

Lol. The best part is that modder will go into debt because Valve doesn't need to pay thouse 500$ and like they told the other Modder. They will not remove the mod from steam.

So what then? Just report the mod or something to make him show proof of paying TweenLite?
iX Apr 25 @ 6:59am
It was mentioned in a comments post by one of the SkyUI contributors that the TweenLite dependency has been removed from 5.0.

They knew exactly what they were doing, well ahead of time.

Check the sourcecode, it no longer uses Tween.

edit: heh, same time iX :D

The modders who are demanding compensation for a hobby have not thought of the consiquences of what happens when money comes into an area as gray as modding has been *forever* - Now they (Valve/Bethesda/Any modder FOOLISH enough to go along) Has gone and turned on every light in the room, with no regard to all the issues they 'gloss' over all the time

I hope they enjoy the attention this all brings, the burning wreckage will be glorious to watch, unfortunately all that will turn out from this is mods will be like DLC, many top modders will be taken out from legal troubles, and there will be many many poor mods - When something like 5% of all mods are even worth looking at when they were FREE (coding/compatability/quality) this new incentive to make a dime will simply crush any uniqueness right out.

Modders are going to find out what it's like to work in a gray area, And good. They get Exactly what they deserve for being Fools, Valve/Thesda are big enough they'll throw money at the problems to go away, Little guys will be crushed.

Half the mods made use free trial version of software that they should be paying to use if they want to make money from a mod the other side of the money coin is tax.

Declaring earnings for Taxation yeah it's a dirty word but not disclosing your income could end up with a whole lot of money being sized by the tax men/women, or even jail time.

Shhhhh... let him post it and reap the debt. People need to learn a lesson here.

Over 9 million Nexus downloads of SkyUI prior to the paywall. What happens when people need the updated version to prevent their game from crashing?

Over the long run anyone who mods their game will need to pay out more for mods than their initial cost of the game proper.

Mods will migrate from the Nexus to the workshop. Modded games will be borked unless you are willing to pay this ransom.

There will be no game in your library capable of being modded that will avoid this paywall.

Many people right now have their head in the sand and are failing to understand this paradigm shift. The cost of gaming will increase exponentially.

We already serve as tech support for Steam and it's many products. Now modders are being taken advantage of and being asked to provide content.

Sadly it will all come out of our pockets. The rich get richer.

And no I will never purchase a mod and my support of the Steam platform hangs in the balance.

Read it...
Then read it again.

This is how stupid of a move this was.

That I'm also going to be looking to make things like GOG.com my primary method...

We're already seeing this... the paid mods that exist aren't nothing to rave about. They're glamor items and nothing more. If I wanted to pay for a mod, then give me the fixes which should've been taken care of years ago. That's the real tragedy: Valve/Beth want a cut from what mods have fixed and refixed for years! If say, all the mods vanish, with more and more modders taking their stuff down, what're you left with? A shiny new armor set or a weapon mesh? Big whoop. Congrats, you game is STILL broken!

The paid mod scheme was quickly introduced by Valve and is surely to contain many legal boundaries that will restrict mod authors from monetizing their mods.

No, you should do your homework first the docs regarding TweenLite have not been updated, SkyUI 5.0 no longer uses TweenLite. They were fully aware of the greensock licensing, which is why SkyUI 4.1 remains free.
