Shouts and Dragon Souls
I'm stacking up a lot of Dragon souls, but I'm not finding the same number of Shouts. Is there anything else I can do with Dragon souls? If not, is there any way in the game to find out where the words of power are? I mean, if it's meant to be just luck then so be it, I don't want to cheat to get them.

Well, you find them in prominent places, and following several quest lines [such as Dark Brotherhood, and the Main Dragonborn Quest] can net you quite a few words of power to spend 'em on.

Most of them are found at the end of dungeons. I would say that 75% of all the words of power I have (around 30 right now) I found after completing a random quest that sent me to a fun dungeon. Just talk with as many NPC's as you can to collect quests.

I had 65/66 shouts and 80 dragon souls up my sleeve ( I now know where that shout is now) in my first play through.(vanilla)

you can ask one of the greybeards after you did their quest to retrieve the horn, he will point you to one. I forgot which one to ask.

Also, sometimes when you shout in a city and people hear you, you will trigger an event where an unknown person will send you locations of shouts.

Also letter from a friend
Ask him 'you want to learn more about dragonborn' or simular to that. There's only one greybread that speaks for all, other than their master.

i've actually reached a point in mine where i lack a few shouts, yet Arngeir won't point me to any words. haven't tried Letter from a Friend yet, but i'll give it a go next time

This will happen then you are on your own, exploration will find them.
Usually at start of game I just run around everywhere find unmarked places go near them get them tick up on the map, others you get by people you meet 'Here I will mark it on your map'

It's possible to get all the shouts (and words) and still get dragon souls. This is where mods can step in. Such as Apocalypse Spell Package, which lets you spend dragon souls to refund perk points in a skill, or Deadly Dragons Spells, which adds spells which can be boosted in several ways by spending souls. (Note that while Apocalypse Spell Package is mostly lore friendly, Deadly Dragons Spells is kinda not, regarding the spell names at least).

I'm sure there are others, but those are ones I can think of off the top of my head.

its better to shout around a town or somewhere a a lot fast travel somewhere and the random couier will come up to you and tell you where a shout is and not buged that way

There's a mod that allows you to convert dragon souls into perks or increases to H/M/S.

Two mods that will help, "Dragon Stones" and "Word Wall of Skyrim" the first lets you exchange souls for perk points and the second is a book that gives you the location of word walls.

Thanx all. Fantastic feedback! I'm still fairly early in the game (level 16) so I will shout around towns for now, but if and when I end up with most of the words and excess souls, I will check the mods. :)

Make sure you use a 'safe' shout (i.e. one that won't count as an attack if someone gets in your way) like Whirlwind Sprint or Kyne's Peace, or if you've only got attack-type ones, do it well away from any 'civilians' :) You might get told off by a guard for shouting in town, but I don't think you can get a bounty for it, just a bit of a warning.

Thanx gnewna. I've got two safe ones I can use. :)
