Back from hiatus...vampires and death hounds everywhere (never bought Dawnguard)
So I started playing again after a while and all of a sudden everywhere I go there are vampires and death hounds. They waylay in groups on roads and also in cities at night. I never bought Dawnguard but I see it listed in the data portion where my DLC (workshop) stuff is. What gives?

Glitch; Dawnguard DLC was given to everyone on STEAM by accident like 6 months ago.

So, if you actually owned Skyrim, it auto-downloaded it for you.

Wow, I guess that's great [roll eyes] because now I literally cannot do anything at night without getting merced by bands of vampires and their various controlled creatures (human and non). Thanks for the info Shocks-CoEnzyme-

One asks where Dawnguard DLC came from.... Aliens

If I got an alien DLC gift I would make sure you back up the ESM and BSA File that goes with it somewhere, just in case you ever have to verify your game cache, and Steam notices your alien gifted DLC. One would not want your save to become useless if that happened. ;-)

I probably won't do any of that blablabla-jingleheimerschmidt that you just mentioned, but I thank you anyway. I have this thread at least.

You will soon pray to Talos that the Vampires give you a quick death... :)

Is that so? Really? O_O

Anyway I haven't this problem, vampires appear randomly to me, but not everytime...
For instance... Yesterday they killed Adrianne Avenicci... so bad.... :(

Hey Skyrimnut (and all) I picked up a quest in Falkreath about a little girl getting mauled by a warewolf. I have his ring (after talking to him in the prison) and now I'm walking slow like I am over-encumbered. Is this supposed to happen i.e. the weight of the ring slows me down or is this another glitch?

There are several mods that work to fis this problem. The one I use is called Make All NPCs Essential Base Game. Its here on Steam. This helps by making sure no merchants etc get killed by night attacks. There is another that makes everyone except guards run into houses etc, so they are not attacked. Go back to a save about level 10 with one of those, no one critical to game dies.

Are you overencumbered? The Cursed Ring of Hircine doesn't do that normally. Are you a werewolf already?
Just to correct a few things about the accidental update which gave all who was online whether they own Skyrim or not the free Dawngaurd DLC. If you don't like losing all your needed NPC, those you need for quest, there is a mod that makes them all essential and won't die during Vampire raids. Just remem, ber to back up the dawngaurd file if you ever decide to reinstall your Skyrim or you will lose it.
