Very Frustrated - Game keeps crashing
Can't figure out what's causing it. I didn't do this before, but now it's happening all the time. I've found one place where it happens all the time. Pinewatch, loading the area just south of it. It's an open area full of trees and as soon as I get to the boulders by the entrance to Pinewatch, the game crashes every time.

Stuff I did before: I removed an ENB and replaced it with a pre-ENB config (because I decided I'd sacrifice some pretty effects in order to get the game playing smoother). I also used BOSS (according to it, I managed to decrease conflicts, and no longer had a red-lined one, but I think the problems started after I used this).

I've tried disabling likely mods (especially those that I added more recently, mainly at BOSS' suggestion), and lowered my settings to bare minimum in case it was that causing the problem. Oddly, lowering my settings to lowest preset caused it to crash just on trying to get to the Skyrim main area (as opposed to when I ran to the area south of Pinewatch).

This is extremely frustrating for me. Wish I'd never touched BOSS.

NVIDIA Control Panel Settings:

AO: Quality
AS: 16x
SLI Rendering Mode: SLI
Texture Filtering - Negative LOD Bias: Allow
Texture Filtering - Quality: High Quality

^I'd used these settings a lot of times before I used ENB. Don't see how they could be causing the problem.

I'm not saying that this is your problem, but try disabling Skyrim HD Full - Landscape.esp=1

For some reason, at least on my PC, this mod likes to cause a lot of issues. It's the only mod that will actually make my rigs FPS chug. It might help, and it might not, but I'd try it at least.

Yeah, it didn't help. Thanks for trying, but I didn't expect it to be the source of the trouble. I've used the HD texture stuff for ages. It's only recently (as far as time spent playing the game) that I've had trouble. I think the only mods I've started since the issue cropped up is the conflict patches BOSS told me to get. Disabling those didn't fix the issue either.

Do you use NMM? Or just Steam?

Try starting a new game since you uninstalled mods. I have no idea what type of mods you disabled, so a new game may be the fix to your issues.

I re-enabled mods when I found they didn't solve the CTD so far as I could tell.

Later I might try disabling all mods and doing the same run-through. If it still crashes then, it's not a mod it's something else.

You gotta uninstall, not disable.
Disabling doesn't always prevent "mods" from loading.

For example: I've had weird phenomena when "disabling" mods like "Expanded Towns and Cities" [1 esp and 1 BSA], thinking disabling would prevent the mod from rendering in a new game; nope some stuff still loads.

Can you revert your load order? This is actually one reason why I almost never run BOSS anymore as at least for me, it does more harm then good. After awhile you sort of learn to manage load order yourself and I find BOSS isn't really needed. I pretty much only use it to see whether or not any new mods I get need cleaning.

That said when I do run it, I make sure to keep a copy of my previous load order in case the new one causes issues.

What would AOM.esm stand for? If it is The Art of Magica, then I do not see XP32 custom skeleton in your load order.

I've had it for ages and never had problems, including wearing some of the outfits. Nevertheless I added it just because. It won't make a difference because it's definitely not the source of the trouble.

I'm basically at the point that I'll wipe out my Skyrim installation and re-install all the files I use from scratch *sighs*

I'll put it off until tomorrow on the off chance someone spots something or other. Plus it's about time for me to go to bed.

The mod author states the following:

2.1) PREREQUISITES
For female bodies to work correctly, this file requires either Dimon99's UNP.
Version 8.0 and beyond require a maximum compatibility skeleton or CTD will occur with some outfits. XP32 maximum compatibility skeleton is recommended for easy installation. Custom Skeleton Replacers is also available for advanced modders.

If you have a habit of igonring auhtors warning, then I am not supprised that you had CTDs.

Starting over sounds like a good idea.

I don't 'have a habit' of ignoring warnings. I read the installation instructions. I overlooked one, yeesh. Maybe I missed one of the others, but again it's not deliberate. I noticed that when you pointed out it was missing.

To be fair, if he has actually been running it for awhile, chances are he is running the skeleton. I could be wrong, but I don't think that particular mod is one that shows up in the load order. If the crashing was due to this, it would be fairly apparent too. The crashing at least the way it is described, seems more due to loading certain cells.

Thank you kindly.

Yeah, at first I was operating under the assumption that it was water related (I've never had great luck with water related mods. Actually, even the base game no mods, water didn't tend to play nice for me), but when I uninstalled the mods related to that and it didn't fix the issue, I moved on to the bird mods (one of them adds in nests, and there were a LOT of trees in that particular area), but still no joy. It's possible that it's some sort of texture memory overload, but I monitored my RAM and Swap usage and it never hit near maximum.

I've heard bad things about SoS (older versions) too.. including the Warzones, probably since both are script intensive and since scripts bake into a save file.. even a casual uninstall aint gonna solve it. Try checkin with this program:

http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/52363/

See if you got orphans runnin around.
