Golden Claw Need Help!
I've just started TES V, and I'm doing the Golden Claw quest. So, I've got the Golden Claw, and returned to Lucian with it, but although it's clearly in my inventory, when I talk to him, I can't access it! Please help.

Did you get the dragon tablet as well? If not, that could be the reason why you cannot access it. Or at least opened the runed door.

^ Agreed there is the dragonstone tablet and a word to learn as well that is needed for another quest. If you didn't do those things the game most likely won't let you finish the quest with out getting those things.

Thanx Alkpaz. No, I didn't get the dragon tablet yet, coz no-one told me I needed to! I tried the 3 ring'd code door for AGES and had to give up on it and run all the way back I'd come, to get outside so I could fast travel. So, I need the dragon tablet. Do I have to go thru the 3 ring'd door to get that? If so, are there any clues as to the code? If my maths is up to it, I think there are 27 permutations, tho I could only work out 25, all of which I've tried! :)

Read the journal of the guy who had the claw...
hint:
"when you have the golden claw, the solution is in the palm of your hands."
bigger hint:
Look closely at the claw - you can do this by hovering over the image of it in your inventory and I think either clicking on it or zooming in with your mouse's scroll wheel thingy.

(You will probably kick yourself. Don't worry, you aren't the only one...)

Not to further kick yourself or anything...but if you had typed this into the search bar in this forum, you will have found a fix sooner :/

Now then...

To be honest...there is NO MENTION IN THE CONTROLS OR ANYWHERE, that 'C' zooms in on an object when looking in your inventory. Just more of bethesda's POOR buggy laziness.

Thanx guys. One of the reasons I bought Skyrim is coz I new it had a great community. To be honest, I'm getting a bit lazy as I know it's often quicker and easier to just ask the pro's. So thanx again for your excellent guidance. :)

If any quest is bugged you can always use the console to complete a quest.

Yeah, its a proble mwith the game design - you absolutely can not fail quests or even run into any (non-combat) related difficulties.

I twould have been a neat thing to have to come back and negotiate with whatshisface for the use of the claw (or just steal it).

When holding claws press C will show what the others are stating.
Go back to save out of Helgen (outside cave)and replay and follow story line upto killing first dragon then venture out in the wide blue yonder of Skyrim.

Thanx all. I got the sequence from looking hard at the claw (hadn't had the 'c' zoom tip then) and I had the luxury of being able to give the stone tablet to the wizard straight away, getting a compliment to boot! Now I've killed my first Dragon and earned a shout, tho how I'm sposed to shout, or at what, the gods only know. I can see there's a lot to learn about this game, guess I'd better start studying. :)

Nooooo, this sometimes works but it *often* doesn't and sometimes/probably often actually stores up problems for later. There are occasional times when it is really the only thing you can do and doesn't cause problems, but mostly it is a VERY last resort, as in, if I don't do this I will have to start a completely new character or something... It's usually better to reload an earlier save and work back to the same point, or look up bugfixes on the UESP wiki. Sometimes even saving and reloading your save and trying again (esp if it's a case of being unable to finish a quest by talking to a given NPC because they don't have the dialogue option) works.

Axelrand - have fun! It's best not to shout at anyone you wouldn't hit with your sword (e.g. named NPCs) as it may be seen as an attack.
