PC uses CPU instead of GPU
Hello everyone,
I'm from the Netherlands and I bought a MSi GX70 laptop with a AMD A10 proccessor, 8 GB ram and a 17,3 inch FHD screen. Now it all sounds pretty good but I have one issue while I'm playing Skyrim. Because when I launch the game I can see some kind of screen telling me what GPU I'm using and what my settings are etc. Now I play on Ultra and it seems to work pretty OK but according to Skyrim my GPU is a AMD Radeon 6850G instead of the AMD Radeon HD 8970M I am supposed to play with. Does any one of you know what's wrong? I installed the drivers that I received on a CD-ROM with my laptop but thats everything I can think off to do... Maybe I need some kind of new driver or something but I have no clue, Im a real PC nooby and this is my first gaming PC in like... forever... So if anyone could help me out that would be great.
So I called the shop where I bought it, they say the 8650G is the one integraded in to my AMD A10 quadcore chip, and the 8970 is the standalone GPU. So for some reason Skyrim only detects the 8650G and if I turn that off in to my device manager and launch Skyrim again, it detects no GPU at all, I thought that if I would turn the 8650 off, it would automaticly switch to my 8970 but it doesn't... I don't know if this is just Skyrim not supporting the 8970M, or I dont have the right driver or that something hardware technical is not functioning... Any way I wish someone could help me out.

You probably need drivers.
Like I said I'm a complete PC nooby... I dont know what the latest driver for my AMD Radeon HD 8970M is and where to download them... You would be my Dovahkiin if you could help me with that... :p
Thanks, that is the thing I adore about the PC community... Just helping people out. I will have a look and then I will tell if it worked for me.
download the custom d3d9.dll creator and create a dll for your system(video card). there is a readme, it has detailed instructions.
then place the .dll in steam/steamapps/common/skyrim folder, where tesv.exe is
Cant find the readme, it is only downloading 1 file :( Do I need to add it to my mods for skyrim in NMM?
its a .rar file.
use 7zip or winrar to unpack it. should be selfexplanationary
I believe what you need to do is enter your Computer BIOS and disable the 8650G. While you have the BIOS pages opened you may see the 8970, if you do, enable it, if not reboot the computer and it should detect the 8970 or it should tell you new hardware discovered and asked for the drivers. Be sure to read the manual that comes with your computer concerning entering and making changes in the BIOS. Do not change anything else unless you are pretty sure of yourself and what you are doing. Making unnecessary changes and fiddling with the BIOS settings can make your computer unstable. If you have doubts, take the computer to the store you bought it and let them disable the 8650G and enable the 8970 for you.
Try looking for energy management in windows or so and there should be an option to set it on high performance.
