Why is Skyrim LE 60us$ on steam but 40us$ on GMG?
I was contemplating buying skyrim and I saw greenmangaming has a 40% off the legendary edition (making it 19,90 after aplying voucher), which is great but I'm puzzled to see over there the games is 40us$... potentially on a sale if steam had the same 40us$ tag it would be cheaper to wait... if steam will retain its 60us$ tag then 75% off would make it 15us$... I don't know what to do :P (another factor is I can buy on steam with my steam wallet and don't have to use my paypal account)

Because GMG either got some keys for cheap and can pass on the savings to the customer while maintaining their profit margin *or* they are willing to make less profit (or even a loss - that's what a 'loss-leader' is) on each sale in order to make the difference up in increased sales.

Its kinda basic business 101 here.

So steam won't lower the price to 40us$ to compete I guess... well I'll buy it on GMG then... is a good price :D... I hoped it was something announced by bethesda that would apply to every legendary edition out there xD

Steam *is* competing, just not on price. Steam offers . . . uh whatever Steam has that GMG doesn't. Valve thinks that the customer thinks that that difference is worth paying for.

Only way to find out for certain if that is true is to put it to the test.

and a pack of weenies/franks is cheaper at Walmart than Safeway. Safeway needs to lower their prices! :P

I think that analogy is quite bad... gmg skyrim is activable on steam so there is no difference between one and another. Anyway I just wanted to know if Skyrim had lowered in price and steam was updating for the summer sale or if it was a gmg promotion... knowing that I have no problem where I buy it... I'm gonna have it for sunday :D...

Ty for all your answers.

It is also $40 permanently in a few of the BIG retail stores now i noticed today. $39.99 regular price for hardcopies in some pretty commonly used stores here in the US(didn't mention the names of those stores because i am not sure if steam counts that as advertising)

Also that price is for the legendary here NOT just the regular game.

I am from Texas.. but since Safeway is common everywhere else, I used it as a general store. I could have said HEB, but HEB is far less known "up north" than in the south. :P

because

because steam doesnt buy and resell keys, they just let publishers sell and take a cut.
Other shops have to buy and resell and might lower prices when they bought too much.

I've bought groceries at Walmart, their quality sucks; Safeway > Walmart.

Even the franks? To me franks all taste very similar.. unless they are angus/turkey/etc. a general weenie is a weenie anywhere. :P

I am not a weenie aficionado though.

Steam has negociated a price with Bethesda and so its a fixed price.

Other outlets have other means of acquiring them and so can sell them at whatever price they like.

Because it's a free market. Don't confine yourself to just steam. There are plenty of sites out there that have good deals if you keep an eye out.
