Issue with Starting a Game
I haven't seen this on the board yet, so here is my problem. I bought the Elder Scroll's anthology back in December. I played it for a short time and recently got back to it. I was completely lost on what I was doing in the game, so I started over. When I get to the point to set up my Character, the game just doesn't do anything. I chose Redguard, but I can't pick the body, sex, or anything. So I press R for done and Nothing happens. I tried every button on my keyboard and when I right click, it brings up the message asking if I am done and ready to name my character. No mater what I seem to do when I try to chose "OK" seems to advance me any further. I just can't get past that point.

I have had a bunch of Mod's installed, But ... since I have been having this problem, I removed all mods, did verify the file integrity, have uninstalled/re installed and still I can't get past creating my character.

The most recent changes I have had on my system is that I had McAfee, LogMeIn and a few other programs on the list of program that interfere with Steam on my system. So I uninstalled them all because I was having connectivity issues with the Steam Launcher. But none of that seems to help. Right now I am using a clean install of Steam and Skyrim with no Mods and with all the programs it says interferes with Steam removed. Any Idea's on how to fix this?

My only other thought is going to be to download some game saves that others have created that have no Mods and are just past the creation point so that I can play since I had already deleted all my other saves.

Check your Recycle bin for saves.

The point was that I wanted to start over instead of picking up on a game that I have forgotten where I was in the world. If I can't start a new game, then there is no point in me even playing the game.

If you have completely reinstalled the game, then I have absolutely no idea what could cause this. Because of this, I can't really give any other idea than to try Live Another Life - mod, in case that something is messing with notoriusly trigger-heavy Helgen scene. That might get you started.

Even if it would fix your inability to start the game, the original bug exists. I don't like that, but there is little we can do without any more data. Maybe something will come up trough Tes5Edit, or other program, once you get to play the game.

Somethng similar happened to me some months back .. Skyrim glitched on me and I was stuck .. It was due to my mods. I uninstalled/unscribed etc.. and so forth a couple of times yet had the same problem. I used Tes5edit to clean up my system .. sometimes bad files are just left behind.

Here is a link that shows you exactly how to clean those files and remove them. If you don't have Tes5edit it is a free download and it works.

I would have recommended the same, but OP said that all mods were removed and game reinstalled.

Still, cleaning DLCs with TES5Edit is worth doing.

I will try that either tonight or this weekend. If that doesn't help, I think I will just uninstall again (including Steam) delete all directories that deal with Steam and the Elder Scrolls games, then find the CD's and try a clean install from the CD's. Thanks for the recommendations and I will let you know what works.

Overloaded1, read my post in pinned topic 'Hints and Tips. (page 18 50 posts per page or page 57 on 15 posts per page). Firstly this may give you a better idea in cleaning your game and how to do it, only backing up Ref and the others in what they are telling you to do.
PS I use McAfee and it has no main issues with the game only when scanning but you can live with it.

I had McAfee from my internet provider installed. When I would start Steam, it was unable to connect. The version I had didn't have any kind of "Game Mode" or any visible way to just turn it off. So I uninstalled it and everything was able to connect. I hate having to have an anti-virus anyways so I will just do without that one for now. :)

I am happy you are able to connect .. McAfee is not my favorite but I do recommend you put on some type of anti-virus protection software that is suitable for you. Happy Gaming
