Relatively new to Skyrim modding.. suggestions please
I've not really played the game that much.. and not for quite a while, mods that streamline the play experience would be welcome also stuff that helps performance.. I seem to remember from my previous experience pretty significant stuttering/lag & objects/terrain popping into view.. which is why I haven't been back for a while.

I've a reasonable rig, so should be able to run the game OK with a few graphical bells/whistles enabled right?

I have a mod you might like that reduces grinding and lets you play with any build easily. Dragonborn Crafting Hall

And yes your rig should be fine.

If you want to mod your graphics, there's quite a few ENBs built with low-end rigs to mid-tier rigs in mind, which work well enough and often have zero to little perfomance drop.

I would recommend Stakado Cinemascope if you're intersted. It looks great for a perfomance ENB.

Try this as a good starting point for both information of how to mod and a selection of mods that work well together.

Whatever you do, DO NOT rely on Steam to manage your chosen mods, use either Nexus Mod Manager or Mod Organizer to handle things.

I recommend Sanctum. Well-crafted to assist the new character.

^ What Foxman said.
Ignore everything else.

I can't believe I forgot to mention SKSE[skse.silverlock.org] and SkyUI last time, those are must have mods. I use both Workshop and Nexus Mods so I can use the mods that are only on one or the other. I do use NMM to manage my mods but have zero problems with using the Workshop too.

Many of the best mods require SKSE and SkyUI anyway. SkyUI allows some good mods to be configured in game in the main menu. Three that use them I can think of off the top of my head that I know make Skyrim better are, Unread Books Glow, Enhanced Blood Textures[www.nexusmods.com], and Burn Freeze Shock Effects[www.nexusmods.com].

My mod, SkyUI, and Unread Books Glow are also on the Nexus if you do decide not to use the workshop. Dragonborn Crafting Hall Nexus[www.nexusmods.com], Unread Books Glow Nexus[www.nexusmods.com], SkyUI Nexus[www.nexusmods.com].

Thanks for the recommendations guys.. can anyone suggest some steps/mods to improve draw distance/detail & reduce (remove?) stuttering/detail pop in.

Some mods that you MUST have would be skyui, and favourite menu.

About graphics boost, there's some.
Unofficial high texture fix.
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/39799/? (If you're going to use ENB)
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/41076/? (There's a better version of water, but I don't know if it's compatible with all this stuff.)
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/48938/? (If you're going to use ENB)

I haven't used all those mods, I don't know if they'll will work together.
I have only used light FX + tamerial climates + natural grass + skyfalls and skymills + supreme storms... And pretty much that's it.
Eventually I'll slowly add new mods, that boost it even further.
