Spouses and Stewards
I checked UESP about consequences of NPCs after becoming spouses or stewards, but it's not very clear to me.
I mean specially those npcs who are more than just simple followers and that can be married or set as stewards.

For example, I was going to marry Farkas and make his brother as our Steward... But what will happen to their trainer option? I read that spouses keep it, but there're no details about the steward.
Also, the 2 said npcs normally give radiant companion quests.. Will they still assign me tasks if I marry/make them Steward? If not, will Aela cover ALL kind of tasks or she can only assign me a few types only?

Bump, no one knows?

Sorry, no, but you could test it by saving before marrying/hiring as steward, going straight from proposal to marriage ceremony, then seeing whether they still have the options. I would assume they do, unless it pushes them to beyond the maximum number of dialogue options (I think they can only have up to around eight lines, after that things start to go missing - this will be more likely to be reached if you have multiple follower mods or other mods that increase the number of dialogue options you have with them, I think).

On the one hand i don't forsee any problem. On the other hand however i see Bethesda. Other than that hopefully amusing observation, i really have no idea..

Theorically they should still have their older factions.. but this particular case is not specified anywhere... and I am afraid that bringing them at their new home they will "forget" to have been quest givers for companions... Asked to see if someone already tested it...

I finished my lakeview manor, so seems I'll have to be the first to test this... the problem is that I need one of them to have the option "I'm looking for work", to see if the option stays after I marry/steward them... But even that way, it could be that the job request stays the first time, and then they'll never give me one anymore... Last time I received a task from Aela, but it was a hunting task (as she loves), I'm not sure if she will provide also the other tasks...

And yeah... it's Bethesda, so we can never know...

The two most awesome men in the game .. I did not think they could become a steward .. My character is married to Farkas .. Does anyone know how to give him a bath?

Yeah I think so aswell. I dislike most of the other npcs.. there's some nice smith (which was the other option I was thinking of, so they provided me interesting goodies) and a few strong mages, but I don't like their traits. I just turned in a quest to Aela and checked which other quests I could take and this time I could select from her again or from Varkas.. Now only thing stoping me from doing that test is lazyness...
Is Farkas still giving you any quests? (Or does he give any at all after a certain point?)

Yes Farkas does still give quests strait from our home. In fact after you help Farkas with all of his Dragon seeking he begins to give you the quests Vilkas normally gives you right at home. Of course I can still go to Vilkas ... But if you figure out how to get Vilkas and Farkas in one home .. wow .. the twins together .. Let me know.

Would that smith be the one in Ravenrock? lol

I was thinking to marry Farkas and get Vilkas as a Steward, I read that the housecarl may still remain at home without being a steward, so if my math is correct, you can have spouse + steward + housecarl = 3 npcs inside your home, without considering the bard. I also read that the process to hire a steward is taking the npc as follower, bringing it to home, and there asking him to be steward.. Now I don't think they will just accept, not all of them I guess, they may ask something in change, but since we talk about Vilkas and Farkas, they should be glad to join you, if you already took Kodlak's place.
Anyway I'll try to hire him myself when the time will come (if it will happen before you find a solution), so I'll let you know anything, subscribe the discussion!

It's nice to know Farkas still gives you quests from home! This is what was concerning me.. I like Farkas as a partner for my female nord warrior, plus it's really comfy to get companion quests directly from your home, aswell as turning them in when you return home to deposit the extra stuff!

What do you mean by "his dragon seeking" anyway? I have finished the whole companion quest chain, is there anything more I have to do?
Also, let me know any interesting info you may find about.

As for smiths, I don't remember the one you mention right now, but for example, the guy in Riften can be married, if I'm correct, and several more.. They will sell blacksmith's goodies once married, instead of the generic low-level craps of a non-merchant.

I've married Aela and after marriage she still has the dialogue option to give you quests, but she stopped giving me Hircine Totems quests, and i had to console-force them. For Farkas and Wilkas, if you want to fulfill thei desire to be cured from Lichantropy, i suggest you to cure BOTH of them BEFORE marring one of them. After marring Aela Wilkas never gave me the quest to cure his licantrophy (maybe he became jealous and wanted to stay werewolf).

Also if you use your spouse (or any follower) as a trainer then you can take back the money from their inventory.

Steward can be more buggy, and steward + spouse (if possible) is for sure giving conflict (you can't command a steward to go living in another house). They SHOULD keep all their dialogue options, but keep a save and check immediately.

Anyway not all NPCs are coded to be stewards. If one is coeded to be steward, make him/her follow you to your mansion and talking to them they should immediatly say they's like to become stewards. Don't know for sure, but Companions or other guild members might not want to become stewards.

My House is so full Husband, Steward, House Carl, 2 adopted children, a fox, a dog and a bard all living within. Not to mention my 2 chickens, cow, 2 horses (shadowmere) and my carriage driver and horse outside. I tried to get Vilkas to initiate conversation to be my steward it never happened .. not everyone will spawn conversation to accept the job.

If you did not go to all the dragon mounts prior to finishing the companions quest when you ask Farkas for a job he will say something to the effect there is always work to be done, but this time its not for curing his lycanthropy but he wants to slay a dragon and he knows where to find one. After these dragon mounts are completed unless you did them without him he will then give you various jobs just as vilkas will give you. Aela is different .. she pretty much stays "the Hunt" quests.

The Smith is the one from the Dragonborn DLC .. He lives in Ravenrock on Solstheim .. he has Farkas's voiceover .. He is actually a brother to Delvin Mallory in the thieves guild in Riften .. along with other family ties in Riften.

Let me know if you do get Vilkas to steward for you. And check out that smith in ravenrock, he is pretty cool.

Wow it must have been because you married Aela you could not cure Farkas and Vilkas. I have married both Vilkas and Farkas .. one in my standard skyrim game and one in my legendary which I play now. Both times I was able to marry them first and then cure them afterwards along with myself. That is good to know about Aela.

My Windstad Manor is the same and has a wife, steward, house carl, 2 adopted children, bard. and carriage driver as well as the animals.

I turned Mjoll into a steward but she was hard to lead up to the house. She kept vanishing so finally I walked backwards to make sure she didn''t sneak off and it worked. From what I heard Mjoll can't be a steward but she is and she has her dialogue options she had before so I was assuming Vilkas and Farkas would also.

Also I think Aerin had an unfortunate accident and fell down on his dagger in his home or something because he no longer constantly follows Mjoll around.

Does Mjoll also have the Steward dialogue options?

Yes she had the steward dialogue options. I tested to make sure everything was working with her before I saved.
LadySky89 Mar 27, 2014 @ 4:36pm
I am pretty sure about Vilkas and Farkas.
Farkas did have a limitation, but I don't remember which one, but he can be married.
Vilkas can be both married and steward, so I decided to marry the former and hire the latter as steward.
This info comes from UESP, so I think it will work.
I didn't visit solstheim yet, that's why I hadn't met that smith, I'm not sure you can marry/hire him, I don't remember if I saw his name in UESP.

The reason I need them to still assign tasks is indeed that I've noticed Aela only assign me hunting quests, so if the twins had removed their dialogue option, I'd been cut out from all the other quests... I was not aware of the bugs involving the cure, I completed my house since not much time and I'd need a steward and a spouse now to inhabit it, I don't want to send my child alone in there, it gets often attacked by giants (and yeah I know kids are immortal, but it's a matter of roleplaying...). What about hircine totems then? Will it happen the same than Vilkas not wishing to heal his lycantrophy about them?

By the way, remember that you can't hire a new steward if you already have one, and as far as I remember, the only way to get rid of a steward is by its death, don't remember for sure tho.

(I was aware about the bug with the trainer's money, but I don't think to need it, I have almost finished training those skills by myself... the bug is fixed with the unofficial patch btw, but I haven't installed it prior to starting my savegame, and I won't now, until I finish the main quest chain)
