I already have it for xbox. So if i get this version, it'll be solely for the mods. So here's my question. How difficult is it to actually get all the mods working. Does it tell you if certain mods contradict each other? And how much time will it take to get this all properly working?

Since you sound like you have no experiance with mods, about a few hours to figure out what you are doing. Just download nexus mod manager and use it instead of trying to install manually.

Not hard to add mods. Use Nexus Mod Manager (NMM) from Nexus site and ndon't forget that Workshop has some nice mods also and all you have to do there is subscribe to the mod. Use BOSS to keep your mod order correct.
Yes most mod authors will tell you about known conflicts and other mods you may need to DL to get their mod to work correctly. As much time as necessary to get your mods correctly instlled and playing with no problems. Usually not alot of time unless you screw up.

Depends entirely on the amount and kinds of mods that you download. Nexus Mod Manager, or NMM which is usually the way you will see it, is a great help in sorting your mods to avoid conflicts but by no means infallible. Remember to read each mods requirments and descriptions carefully, and get the Unofficial Patches from Nexus and take heed of the load order which will be given on the files download page. I think you will find after playing the vanilla game that adding mods will add a whole new dimension to the game. Good Luck.

It's pretty easy to download mods.
With Steam Workshop, you just click "Subscribe" and the mod will automatically be loaded into your game with no hassle. Just click "Unsubscribe" and it will be unloaded. Simple.

If you're downloading from Nexus, use Nexus Mod Manager. It'll handle the installation and uninstallation of your mods.

As others have said: re-read author's notes and their compatability list. Another way is to understand how skyrim loads its content, this will greatly help you avoid conflicts. Examples would be: Is it in the same cell? Does it effect the same list(s) or creatures, or perhaps even the same image space. Mods can also have dependencies, most notably masters. If a mod is missing its master your game will crash instantly. Texture mods are one of the safest types to begin with.

If you're serious about modding I'd recommend not even using the workshop unless it's an exclusive. Use Nmm for installations (your order of installs can effect some mods) Boss to sort 'most' of your load order and if you use more complex mods such as SkyRe then look into Wyre Bash and SUM. Don't let the number of programs scare you, they're very user-friendly and easy to use.

As for if it is worth it, I was in the same boat as you and I don't regret my purchase, I could never go back to console Skyrim, because now Skyrim is the game I always wished it could be.
As for the time investment I fully modded my Skyrim with ~100 mods and a ENB over a weekend, total of about 12 hours. (Mostly DL times)

It's pretty easy to use mods with steam or with nexus mod manager.
with steam all you have to do is click subscribe, and with nexus, most of the mods have a "download nmm" button which automatically downloads the mod to your mod manager. Make sure you activate the mod though, or nothing will change. (to activate a mod just double click it)
you should only download a few at a time though because if you add like 30 in one sitting and the game doesnt load you have to go through all 30 of them to figure out which ones are clashing.

also i forgot to mention that a lot of mods require SKSE which is easy to install but you have to look it up because its not on nexus or steam
