nexus or Workshop?

If Workshop, check the Data option on the Skyrim launcher to see if any of the esp's need activating. If nexus, depends how you installed but you should be able to check the same way.

You sure the Nexus mods are installed to the correct folder?
Stuff needs to go into the "Data" folder of yoru SKyrim directory.
Example: if you have a "COOLMOD.esp" file, then it will be in the "Skyrim\Data\Coolmod.esp" location.

As for the vanilla-launcher crash, crashing after the logo means you are missing a master file [mainly a mod or DLC].

OK

Run the launcher, do not start the game, go to the Data Files menu *on the launcher* - are your mods checked? If so they *are* active in the game (doesn't matter where you downloaded them from - the .esp's work the same).

2. Mods that change the same thing will overwrite each other in-game. If you have two mods that make changes to the same perks, for example, only the changes by the mod lower in the mod list will be shown.

3. Many texture and mesh mods are simple replacers - there is *no* plugin and they will not show up in your plugin list. As long as you installed them to the right directory (and the mod author should have configured the .zip or the Workshop plugin to do that) they will be active.

4. .Esp, .esm, and .bsa files should be in the Skyrim/Data folder - not the /Skyrim folder (where the game's executables are) and not in a subdirectory of /Data.

You might want to try using BOSS to sort the load order.
