An age old question, Which build should I use?
Specificly i cant decide between a sword and sheild nord with 5 in bow damage and the rest in smilthing and alchemy (to rp a "normal" human and experience alll factions and quests)

Or a necromancer, conj, dest, alt, rest and entchanting.

which would be better for a single play of as much content as possible?

im still yet to actually get into this game, had it since release, cant decide on a build but have narowed it down

I would go conj/but instead of destruction I would go bow/sneak....

But much is up to yourself..the main thing is that you find it fun to play, and that differ from person to person :)

that sounds like a good combo but i dont want to be o.p and i know that sneak is :)

Sneak is what you make it, it doesn't need to be op. 100 in sneak and only a couple of perks or no perks and you'll still be detected. Mage builds are good fun once you get into game a little, early game will see you running away a lot. A conj/rest build is quite versatile if you put thought into it, dual cast dremora lords, bound bow, a little sneak. If it gets too easy put the difficulty up, if it's still too easy make yourself weaker, your game your rules. Do only what you need to, to give yourself a good challenge. ;) As for which is better, do one then have another game and do the other, skyrim has such a high replayability factor..

Well if you are going to play around with conjuration, you have to choose what you want to do with it: Necromancy or Atromancy.

Necromancy allows you to raise the dead to fight for you. Can be very powerful when you resurrect a dangerous enemy like a bandit thug or a Sabercat, but Necromancy is highly dependant on you killing people. No dead people means no dead to resurrect.

Atromancy allows you to summon atronachs from the plains of oblivion to fight for you. Good when you need sudden aid in battle, and some atronachs can even deal damage at range. Unfortunately it costs more mana to use and most of the atronachs have slow attack speeds compared to an undead bandit.

But IMO, just do what you find fun. Sneaking around, poisonning bandits by putting poison in their pockets? Why not? Smashing everyone around you with the biggest weapon you can find? Go right ahead!

It all comes down to what YOU want to do, not what deals more damage or is better.

With a little effort this can be alleviated with use of Conjure: Boneman or Wrathman. Its a secondary viable necromancy build. It does require Dawnguard though.

Every build I've tried has always become a stealth archer after a few levels. Without mods, going mage was next to useless for me. My last character is on his way to becoming a half-decent mage but he's also got a tricked out bow that he relies upon almost exclusively.

A night blade (stealthy mage) is very fun to play. Avoid the illusion magic if you don't want to be OP, but otherwise you have a ton of options. Bound Bow for sneaky assassinations, conjuration for instant temporary followers, destruction if you want to get up close and personal, etc.

Regardless, I've always found mages of whatever sort to be more fun than pure warriors.

chef build/class:

allowed weapons/magic/shouts/armor:
-only knives
-only questrelevant stuff
-use alchemy&enchanting for power
-only wear chef hat/clothes and regular shoes/boots
-only use food items to heal, potions if selfmade

I would watch a LP of that!

lets say i wanted to do all the quests and factions, is there any risk of a certain build holding me back or can you really do any build and experience everything?

probably necromancer and bow ^^ bow from far away and necromancing from upclose/near (necromancing does more damage if you are closer :D and bows i think do more damage from a distance)

you COULD also make different saves to try out each 1 then find out wich 1 suits you most :D

If you want to play a mage, you'll need to work with Sneak and Light Armor, which will cover for you needing to boost all 3 stats instead of just HP and Stamina. I personally imported my sniper build from New Vegas into a stealth archer here. I'm mostly using Ancient Nord arrows, though, since I've got a ton of those and better arrows cost a lot. :<

The game content is the same whatever you play, only the play style changes.

I would say go with whatever feels the most comfortable. I went with archery in the end, didn't plan it that way, its just the way it panned out.
